Tomatoes can be used as a fruit or veggie. I used them both ways through 2 rounds without any problems. More insight, please......
Can someone please clairify this for me? We were instructed NOT to mix veggies...and tomatoes is on our veggie list and not our fruit list...but I see many recipes (one chili one I just made and had for lunch and it REALLY hit the spot) calling for, ie, onions and tomatoes...just having the tomatoes being counted as Fruit.?? Insight, please...

Can someone else give insight to this? I would like the veterans to chime in on the tomatoes issue. . .this could be a meal lifesaver. . .

Well I'm not a veteran, I'm at the end of my first long round and I eat lots of tomatoes! In my salads and in recipes. They aren't a problem for me, even with ground bison or venison. I mix veggies all the time. The dr. I was seeing said I could. I didn't believe her at first and for a few days I didn't, but that got old FAST!
Oh, I treat them either like a veggie or a fruit. Especially like a fruit if I am having a stall or gained a tad.
Although tomatoes are actually a fruit and not a vegetable, the are counted under your veggie selection of the hCG diet. That is what my clinic instructed anyway. I had asked if I could mix my salad with tomatoes (used as a fruit for the day), and was told no. So I use tomatoes as my vegetable for the chili, over fish, sliced with pepper/salt, etc, and I top my salads with cucumber and celery......and Warden Farms dressings, which I couldn't live without.
Oh yes, Walden Farms dressings are pretty good! So is their BBQ sauce. FYI, they use Splenda as a sweetener.
I use tomatoes as my fruit and it works well for me.
