Depends on if you are following strict protocol or not. Technically they are a no-no... but some people have tried them and say that they have had good results.

Under strict protocol the only allowed veggies are: spinach, chard, chicory, beet-greens, green salad (lettuce), tomatoes, celery, fennel, onions, red readishes, cucmbers, asparagus, and cabbage. Don't mix them together at one sitting... and choose a different vegetable for dinner than you had at lunch.

P.S... the 500 calorie days are actually part of Phase 2.

I have been following 500 calories but the list of foods my clinic gave me which included broccoli and cauliflower (no carrots or starchy veggies). I have been mixing from day 1. You have to watch to see what works for you. I find cucumbers are actually my "best" veggie for loss (and luckily I LOVE them!) oh...btw - my clinic list has no melba/grissinni on it.

The problem with not following the original protocol is you may not stabilize in the end. I don't think the ability to eat broccoli for a few weeks is worth risking stabilization. I'd follow the program correctly.

Personally, I tend to agree with jmmrr on this one.

I totally agree with this. P2 is only for six weeks at a time. Suck it up and do it right. You will be grateful you did, in the end.
