It's the cashews. They are problematic in P3 for many of us. They, like peanuts, are not a true nut.
Hi all...I'm on P3D8 and was doing well intiially then had a 1.6 jump. I think it was cheese and cashews, but am wondering if that was really the problem or not. It did cause me to start wondering how many calories I'm getting in a day. I LOVE my coffee with milk, cream, half and half, anything milky, but I've primarily used heavy cream and half and half. When I put my food into fitday I about choked on how many calories and fat grams I'm consuming in a cup of coffee (but it's so good) So my question is, should I cut back and count calories a little? I've had no cheats in P3 (yea me!) but wonder if there isn't some point where's it's just too much.

i don't think you need to count calories, just use common sense- but there certainly is a point where you can eat too much. if you're eating more than you're burning, you're going to gain weight- it's physiologically impossible not to. the reason you can eat more in P3 when you're eating few carbs is because it takes more calories to burn fat for fuel than it does to burn carbs. So my question is, should I cut back and count calories a little? I've had no cheats in P3 (yea me!) but wonder if there isn't some point where's it's just too much.
it can also be a matter of combining several things that you're a little sensitive to. you might be able to eat some dairy, an egg, or some nuts separately, but not combined. OR, it can also be because those foods are very calorie dense- so when you eat enough of calorie-dense foods to feel full, you're eating a lot more calories than if you're eating veggies to the point of feeling full.

My biggest jump came after eating a bunch of cashews...AND I counted calories...I did not realize they were legumes like peanuts!

I gained 1.5 pounds in about a minute and a half when I added nuts--and not that many either. I just went back to all the other p3 foods that I have been stuffing my face with and interestingly enough I am down another .5 lbs at this point. So , I am at 30.5 lb weight loss. 3 lbs down from LDW. Incredible.
Believe me it's the nuts!
cashews are actually seeds- with an extremely high fat content, which is why they go rancid so quickly. so they should be ok for P3. but a lot of people are sensitive to various nuts, plus they're salty so they can make you retain water, plus they're extremely calorie dense so you can eat a lot of calories without knowing it. i think all 3 of those things are reasons why people tend to gain with them (or any nut).

I've gotten in the habit of measuring most things. I love cashews and always get the roasted unsalted, and I measure out 1/4 cup and put that in a ziploc bag to take to work. That way I know I'm keeping the portion size reasonable. It's far too easy to eat too much straight out of the original container.
I can eat my weight in almonds in P3 and P4. But cashews will make me gain in P3. They are fine for me in P4 though. Same with peanuts.
