For about three years before I started HCG, I followed a lot of the Leptin reset plan - BAB, low carbs all day, lots of coconut oil, no aerobic exercise - and it STOPPED MY WEIGHT GAIN and allowed me to stabilize during those three years.
I started eating like that because of inflammation. I've never been told that I have a "leaky gut", but I do know that my stomach empties so quickly that you could actually hear it gurgling as it empties. My MD called it "fast oxidation."
Fruit causes problems for me so I compensate with lemonade (vitamin C capsule opened into a glass of water + Stevia) or fruit-flavored whey protein shake mix made with Stevia and mixed with water. That saves a lot of carbs, but not eating starchy carbs - bread, potatoes - makes me crave salt so I put more salt on my food than I would just for taste. (Before anybody attacks me: NO, salt doesn't cause edema or high BP for me.)
The only part of the reset that will be hard for me is not eating right before bed. My stomach empties so quickly that I can't sleep through the night unless I eat before bed and have to put a little cream in my coffee even tho' I prefer it black. Before bed, I prefer eating something milky like a whey protein shake, yogurt with ground flax seed or hard cheese. But I'll try to find enough time to prepare and eat a big enough dinner (>100 g protein) for me to sleep through the night, and see how that goes.
I had a blood sugar check reading last Wednesday morning by the nurse at work and she told me that the teaspoon of milk that I put in my morning coffee counted as a meal and the reading under 140 was OK. Geez, that's less than 1 carb! I'll try again next Wednesday with black coffee and see what the reading is; hopefully under 90. They're testing every Wednesday this month. By the 30th I can see what it is after a Leptin reset BAB.
