# Thread: What Are Units on an Insulin Syringe?

1. i am desperately trying to figure out how to dind my dosage and how much to inject and how much to mix...and one of the things i need to know is if im gonna do 200iu, or even 175iu or 150iu, how do you measure that on an insulin syringe that only has units on it, starting at 10-100? i found this on here:
Water
1,500 IU - 5 ml bac water
2,000 IU - 7 ml bac water
5,000 IU - 19 ml bac water
10,000 IU - 39 ml bac water

Dose
125 IU dose = .50 ml, or 50 on an insulin needle
150 IU dose = .60 ml, or 60 on an insulin needle
175 IU dose = .70 ml, or 70 on an insulin needle
200 IU dose = .80 ml, or 80 on an insulin needle

but im not sure how many units that is because if i actually did 50 units, thats like almost half of the syringe....surely that cant be right....someone know how much i inject of the units??

2. I'm anxious for the answer! Just told hubby I may be playing with needles, syringes and measuring spoons/cups one of these days to find the right answer! LOL

First round I used 50 unit insulin syringes, 1/2 cc...I went to 20 units for 200 iu's, 15 units for 150iu's etc.

This time I have a 20 unit insulin syringe, still 1/2 cc syringe!!

4. bouscher- that's very weird, because if you have a 1/2cc syringe, it should have 50 units on it. 10 units equals .1cc. i answered the rest of the question on another thread.

5. I think these are called "U-40" insulin syringes...This is the closest I can come to a link...http://www.healthwarehouse.com/nipro-glucopro-insulin-syringe-30-gauge-1cc-1-2-100-count.html and it's of the box, not the actual syringe. I have so many of these leftover from when the cat needed insulin daily that I'd love to be able to use them up. If not, I'll order what I had before. From what I can find, those are called "U-100" insulin syringe.

6. I don't see any reason not to use them. The most you would use is .40 or 40 so you should be just fine.

7. Jenni,

I'm aiming for 200iu with Scotts Formula, 2000 iu vials...that would just be 20 units or .2, right?

8. If you are doing the dry hcg then you would add 4 ml bac water then you would inject .40 or 40 on the syringe. Since it's a 1/2 cc then you would end up filling it almost all the way but it would work.

Jenni

9. it's actually the liquid so I'm mixing with 3ml bac water. but it would still be 40?

Thanks so much!!!

10. Yup...you got it hon!
