I absolutely take an extra protein each day. I couldn't make it through P2 if I didn't. I strongly recomend that people either up their regular protein or add a protein each day.

The exercise Q is really confusing! I've worked out consistently 5X/week for the past 17 months. I do strength training with a trainer 2X/wk, yoga 1-2X/wk and cardio (running or elliptical) the other 1-2 days.

My dr says to take a break from exercise during my 40-day round... But, I just can't bring myself to do it. I've wondered about the extra protein...maybe I'll try an extra serving on days that I run and do my strength work-outs......

When I think about veering from the protocol, I always wonder, "what would Dr Simeons say?"...and he clearly said exercise in moderation, only. However, that was 50+ years ago.............so it's hard to say how he'd feel today. Wish he were still around. :-)

    I'm on R1 VLCD day 2... I'm down 1.5 lbs, net.

mkt- we go back and forth on this, but Dr. S. clearly talks about the benefits of those who continue with "vigorous" exercise during P2. he makes no statements one way or the other in terms of those who have not been exercising, other than an entire day of exercise will cause temporary water retention. he says nothing negative about exercise during P2, but doesn't require it either. so i'm not sure where these docs come up with this- someone probably advises that during a conference and it starts to develop a life of it's own. if i were you i would not give up your exercise- although you might need to scale down the amount of time and intensity of your workouts.

ps- i don't think most women in the 60's worked out anywhere near like some do today- and many guys and gals do very well continuing their exercise and either adding extra lean protein, or a sf protein shake.

It was really hard for me not to exercise in P2 as I love it for mental as well as physical reasons. But it just caused me to gain and stall. Now in P3 I have worked out 5 days this week and feel great. I think the break was necessary to focus my attention on burning fat. I don't feel like I"ve lost too much muscle mass either. If you feel good exercising then certainly do it, but don't beat yourself up if you don't!
