I had my kids watch it with us, I want them to know why you need to make good food choices. There are some disturbing footage, the chicken and the stumbling cow, sticks in my mind. But it isn't like the starving dogs on animal planet. I felt really sorry for the seed sorter man they put out of business.
I heard the other day that tofu comes from Monsato. How crazy is that? It's a conspiracy (said half joking, but really not ~). Don't even get me started on corn syrup.
It isn't "graphic" per say... it is more "real"...
i.e. The chickens that big meat producers are breeding (Tyson, for instance) them with so many hormones now that their bodies are becoming so heavy... that they can't support their own weight. :( It is really sad when you see these chickens trying to get up and walk.. but since the big meat corporations want more from that one chicken, they have crippled them. A lot of them die because of this... they simply cannot walk a few steps before collapsing.
I haven't bought non-organic meat since watching it. I know that stuff is pricey.. and I mainly stick to a diet of chicken with red meat here and there..., but the chickens from the huge corporations are just so bio-engineered.
Did you notice the subtitles, during the chicken scenes? The woman they interviewed (the one who refused to follow Tyson's rules about keeping the chickens in the dark, without ventilation, because it was cruel & filthy)...the only one who would agree to be interviewed...lost her contract with Tyson, shortly after the film went to production. Coincidence? I don't think so. These big food processing companies & seed companies are like mafiosos...they rule with threats & intimidation. They back these farmers/producers into a corner, so that they feel that they HAVE to cave to their wishes. Very sad.
