Today is my 21st day on VLCD and my skin is so dry that my fingers are splitting and bleeding and it really hurts. I am using some baby oil but it just sits on the surface and doesn't really do anything. Has anyone else had this problem and what did you do?

I used Curel lotion all throughout P2, and was fine with it. I am a goldsmith, and I constantly get my hands dirty and then have to wash them. Using lotion is not optional. I had no problem with dry hands using Curel.

Thank you so very much. I will try Curel. My hands look like I am 80 yrs old. I work in retail and it is imbarrasing not to mention the pain.

Knittingal...try the Cornhuskers lotion, if you can find it. It is glycerine based, so perfectly ok on VLCD. Farmers use it all the time (hence, the name), and you know how rough they are on their hands!

You might really need to up your water intake, plus you'll lose more if you do.

I remember reading on a past post of someone using those Nitrile gloves (since they dont break up with oils like latex) and slathering your hands with mineral oil at night and putting on the gloves. I haven't tried it yet since my hands haven't gotten too bad, but thought it might help.

Thanks everyone. I have some Nevia lotion that has a mineral oil base & I just tried some of it. I drink 8 - 10 cups water a day. I've had trouble with my skin for years and can use very limited skin products due to a sensitivity to many ingredients. I will just make sure it is mineral oil based lortion. Some Neosporin ointment would really feel good on my fingers but I am afraid to use it.

I have eczema and had to use my perscription cream or I was itching and bleeding...If your miserable take care of it for one day with your choice of remedy (Neosporin) and keep the treatment going with the Curel lotion (The one I used). I also used my face lotion (Oil of Olay..no oil) for my hands.

Definitely sleep with gloves! I've just done plain old vaseline. Well, not on protocol, but petroleum jelly is ok, right? Mineral based...
