This will be my third day and I am already worrying. How do I make it everyday without anything for breakfast? Can I have a couple of pieces of turkey bacon? How about a protein drink? Would that really do that much damage? I have tried to get a couple of my friends to do this with me and no one is interested! I am hoping this page gives me a little support to make it through! I am 45 and weigh 180 pounds. I am just getting bigger and bigger. Wish just makes me become more isolated and depressed. I have bi-polar depression and really need to find a starting point to get my life back! I have been on a major down hill spiral due to my weight! Social situations are out of the question because I am to embarassed about my size! Which just leads to more isolation! Words of support would help greatly!

You can have one of your fruits for breakfast if you want it. But you may find you really aren't interested. And believe me, turkey bacon will do a LOT of damage! You shouldn't add any food to the list. I think you're going to find that seeing the scale go down is enough motivation you don't need friends doing it with you! And we are here for you.

I was a total breakfast person before HCG and yes, the first few days are an adjustment, but you'll get used to it. I usually ate my apple around 9-10am. I tried to get at least 32 oz water in before then as well (helps with hunger).

Now, in P3, I have a hard time eating in the morning. Some days I can get a protein shake down or I'll have greek yogurt around 10am with some blueberries and almonds (I refer to that as the "Colleen special" LOL)

As soon as the scale starts moving down, you should feel better about what you're doing and you'll see that while it's not always easy, it's worth it! Keep your chin up. The first few days you are also detoxing from sugars and carbs which can make you not feel so well - physcially and emotionally. I suffer from major depression, have been on medication for years, and this has helped me with my self esteem like you wouldn't believe! I'm 39, started at 185.5 and am at 160 lbs today. I'm going to to another round, but for now, I've never felt better in my life. Stick with it. We are all here to help!

    Good luck!

    DWNSZMOM, hi!

I, also, was a HUGE believer in big breakfasts, before this (on a "normal" diet, that's actually the way it should be, with the majority of your calories very early in the day; "Breakfast like a king, Lunch like a prince, Dinner like a pauper"), so I was very concerned about the breakfast aspect of this. I resigned myself early that, if necessary, I'd do my 1st 100g protein early, if I had to, and not the fruit, after I read others saying that the early morning spike in blood sugar, from the fruit, caused problems later in the day.

However, I am pleased to say that, from VLCD1, this huge breakfast eater had NO problems with morning hunger. I did not feel deprived, giving up my breakfast, & this was a shock to me (a very pleasant one). I would wake up, each day, drink my lemon juice in a cup of water, then switch to coffee or tea & I swear I was good to go, till about noon or 1 pm, at the earliest.

When I went back to work, this morning, for the first time on protocol, I was again concerned, because I would normally eat my big breakfast at 5 am, when I awoke. Well, not only was I STILL not hungry, first thing this morning, but 1. I was amazed at how much extra time I had on my hands, not bothering with fixing & eating breakfast (I'm usually running out the door with my hair on fire), and 2. it is almost 10 am, and I am STILL not hungry (although, for some reason, I am sucking down the water like a dehydrated person in the Sahara! Really thirsty today!).

You'll get used to not eating so much so early, and, if it still remains a problem for you, there is no reason you can't have your 1st 100g of meat, when you first get up. Good luck!

DWNSMOM--Someone very near and dear to me is bi-polar. He went through a weight loss program last year, and was successful, but the whole thing really did a number on him at first. The detox'g affected him, because he wasn't getting the sugar highs he was used to. And those high's don't just come from sugar, they come from processed foods and white flour products. The breakfast issue was the worst for him, even though he wasn't on THIS diet. So then, he plummetted pretty quickly. His doctor adjusted some things for him with meds, routine, etc. Just be aware of this as you proceed with your condition. It is managable with the diet of course, but it might be a little more extreme for you. And maybe not! As you know, things change regularly, up and down. Have you talked to your doc or other professionals about your depression tied to the weight gain? If you are on meds, they might need to be tweaked, especially once you start to lose weight rapidly. The good thing is that YOU WILL START TO LOSE WEIGHT RAPIDLY. :]

No matter what, you are beginning a program that will change your life in positive ways, and will reap mucho benefits from it.

Sorry if I am being too personal. This just jumped off the page at me, and I felt I needed to give you something to just keep in the back of your mind...just in case. I wish you loads of luck with your journey...you will be successful if you follow the diet. If you find that missing breakfast causes too much of an imbalance though, and only you can know how you feel physically and emotionally, you might consider a small protein that is on the protocol list. Some of us have hypoglycemia, and we have to do the same thing for completely different reasons. Just stay as close to the Pounds & Inches plan as you can, and take care of yourself individually along the way. :]

    Hi dwnsmom!
It will get easier after a few days. I was always a morning eater too. Lots of water or tea like everyone has said. I did have a fruit in the am until I got going. Now I have it at maybe 11 just to get me by until lunch if I need it.
You have lots of support here, so welcome!!! :)

I, also, was a big breakfast believer. On P2 I would have 1/2 grapefruit with a sprinkle of cinnamon & stevia, under broiler for a few minutes. Yummy, plus it helps with blood sugar until lunch.
