I'm a (relatively) long time lurker and first time poster. I am currently on R1P2D10 (hope I did that right!) and have lost 11.6 lbs on sublingual drops. I love the protocol and feel great - rarely have cravings or feel terribly hungry. I DO miss pizza, sushi and thai food but it occurred to me today that not having them until i'm done with p4 won't kill me, but the negative impact of being overweight eventually will. Both my parents are diabetic and heart disease runs in my family so I figure I should just suck it up, not cheat and wait it out. LOL.
My question is: Is flavored sparkling water OK? They sell them at Target, CVS and the grocery store and I've been drinking them for a long time. I've been enjoying couple while on phase 2 and still lost so I don't want to give them up if I don't have to. I figure it' hydration! It's sweetened with aspartame. Any advice is much appreciated - every one seems so friendly and helpful on this forum.
... I occasionally drink "soda" water with stevia and lemon or flavored stevia.
I was JUST thinking about asking a question about carbonated water/beverages. They do cause a "leeching" of calcium from you bloodstream therefore your body will tap other sources to restore the balance and our biggest source are our bones.
Anyone out there know about this and how large an affect it has on our bones and calcium levels?? I am even more hesitant to drink it on an empty system b/c of these affects. I don't know a lot about it. I suppose I should head to google.....
.... Oh, yeah, emma, I am IN Thailand! I do make a P2 version of a common Thai dish if you are interested in the recipe. It's something eaten here, not sure if it's in restaurants outside the country b/c it's a common dish, not a "famous" dish.
I wouldn't use aspartame. Perhaps very sparingly. I use splenda in moderation. Pepsi one has splenda. I use SWEET Leaf stevia, I get it at vitacost, I now have toffee flavor, plain flavor, Lemon and vanilla cream. Helps make water taste very sweet!
Minnie - a relative of mine broke his hip by turning wrong and slipping while playing football in the street. He's in his late 40's / early 50's. Everybody in the family immediately started saying that the amount of soda was to blame since it made his bones brittle or weak and it most likely wouldn't have happened to somebody who didn't drink a couple of huge sodas a day. I think you are probably on to something...
***eta*** and yes, I would LOVE your recipe! Tom Yum Kai and Pad See Ewe are some of my faves so I'd love to try your recipe -sounds authentic! Thank you so much :)
Minnie - would you mind sending me the recipes as well?? I'm trying to build a "recipe database" as I have 2 more rounds after the one I'm on and don't want to cheat due to boredom! My email is hparker2008@hotmail.com
Well, it's not exactly a recipe. I mean, we don't have a lot to work with!! lol.
This is the method. The key is fish sauce and basil. If you don't like fish, you will not like this recipe b/c fish sauce SMELLS awful when it's added to a hot pan. The finished dish does not taste like it, only leaves a saltiness, but the road to get there....little icky.
Ground chicken Leafy vegetable chopped.
Dry fry a lot of freshly chopped garlic and chopped Thai chilies to taste. Add meat and cook til almost done. (on high heat; like a stir fry). Add basil and stir in. Squirt in some fish sauce (does not take much; maybe a tsp for 100gms of meat) and Bragg's Aminos (7 pumps??). Keep stirring. Add veggie still wet from washing and stir that in well letting the water steam the dish. Reduce heat, cover and steam til veggie is done; just a few minutes. Salt and Pepper to finish as you please.
There is "some" question about chilies on P2 but you really don't use much to make a difference in the sugar department and fish sauce is salty and some people avoid salt. I don't. I love salt and keep my food to a decent level but i keep it level so it doesn't really affect me one way or the other.
I keep freshly chopped garlic, chilies and ginger in my fridge and often do stir frys with it. I love it.
... The carbonated water and calcium connection is true. Any kind of carb water. I just don't understand the scope of the affect and how fast it happens. That we have to limit it, I think is true. That we need to be careful b/c our systems are very empty on p2 is also true. It's also true that the stuff Dr. S allows, the dark, leafy green veggies have some good nutrients in them as well.
