    I'm R2P3D13 and I'm struggling :-(
I've been taking it VERY slow but I keep gaining! I've now cut out ALL foods except P2 friendly ones and I still gain. My ankles, wrists, fingers and calves are swollen so I know I'm retaining water but WHY??

Unfortunately I didn't end P2 on a good note I was in the middle of TOM and had a horrible sunburn so I'm using my pre-Tom weight for my LDW. I've done a steak day which brought me back to +.6 of LDW and then this am I gained another pound so now I'm +1.6 LDW.

    Typical food intake:
    Coffee w/ Stevia
Grilled chicken and veggies for lunch
    Cucumbers for Snack
Grilled fish or beef and veggies for dinner
    celery for snack
Water w/Lemon juice or alone averaging about 120-140oz
No Dairy, fats, no almonds or eggs for 6 days now! I am mixing veggies but that really shouldn't cause a gain.

Any ideas on how to help with the retention and continued gaining? Moneywise I can't do another round until Oct so I was really hoping for a successful P3 and only an occasional dabble into P4.
    Thanks!

Cut your salt "Salt is the Devil" eat some steamed asparagus (natural diuretic). Up you water and do not salt you meats (none for 3 days) check you sesonings might have hidden sugars and salt. *in my own opinion

First thing that comes to mind is are you eating enough? that seems like a rather lo-cal menu...not eating enough will cause you to gain/retain.

Sounds like maybe you aren't eating enough food or often enough...you should be eating breakfast and a lot more protein

My proteins are on the larger size probably 7oz at least and I have a large amount of veggies as well. I just cut back everything when I couldn't stop the gains...ugh!

Hashi- I did cut my salt!! I haven't had asparagas since I cut everything so I'll have some for dinner tonight to see if that helps.
Thanks everyone I'll up my protein tomorrow to see if that helps as well.

how old are you and what is your current weight? sounds to me like you're drinking way too much water, and your kidneys can not quite keep up with it. i'd drop your water down to 64 oz and see how that goes.

You are getting mixed advice, so I'll add to the confusion...

    1. Salt...unless you are eating huge amounts, do not cut it. Dr. Simeons talks about this and says we do not want to mess with the salt. If you are eating massive amounts thats different. But you can retain water because you are NOT getting enough.

    2. Electrolytes out of balance. Take a potassium and a magnesium supplement for a couple of days, and drink between 64 and 100 oz of water. Too much is also bad...

    3. Do a high protein day. I see you eating protein but remove the other stuff and fill up on protein. Dr. Simeons talks about this also. I did eggs for breakfast, tuna salad for lunch and lean pork chops for dinner and lost .8 pounds the next day. You can even go so far as snacking on shrimp cocktail. Remove the nuts and cheese just for the day. I had a bit of a tummy ache from all the protein but felt MUCh better the next day!

    See how that helps.

    Best Wishes,

    Catnip

Well I didn't get my asparagus in because I had to run out to the little league fields. Ooops!

Mgsondance I'm 41 and my current weight is 232.4 my pre TOM and sunburn weight was 230.8 so that's what I'm using for LDW.

Ok so maybe a light bulb just went off! I stopped taking my magnesium and potassium a few days into P3....hmmmm and I've increased my activity level ten fold since ending P2. I'm coaching T-ball, swimming and taking my dd to all of her various sports. I have golfed with her as well as attempted to play soccer with her in the last week or so. My last round I was still taking classes so I would go to class and then home to work on homework= not much activity! I wonder if the combination of not taking my supplements and increased activity are causing me to retain water??? Thanks Catnip! I'll really watch my water intake tomorrow so I know exactly how much I'm drinking and I'll go more for protein and less on veggies. I think I will try the asparagus though since it's got diuretic powers LOL and begin my supplements again.
    Thanks again everyone!

I agree with Catnip! I too started immediately retaining water pretty bad about 2 - 3 days in to P3. I also ate cheese, and don't eat it very often, so that might have contributed. I stopped the cheese, but also realized I had not taken my supplements since starting P3. Once I started taking those again, it took two days (the last of which was a high protein day) and the 2-3 lbs I had gained in just a few short days was gone and I didn't feel bloated anymore. I can tell when I'm either retaining water or gaining weight by how my ring fits around my finger and my stomach just feels super bloated. All gone now - hope that helps you as well.

What supplements are good to help with the water retention? I wake up swollen quite often. My ring can fall off of my finger, but some mornings I can not even pry it off my finger!
