I'm on my 7th day of 500 calories (what's it called: VLCD?),and two days ago I had a pain in my middle finger joint and a dark blue blob formed that - obviously a clot. I rubbed it out and took some aspirin, and the next day had a big bruise all along the joint. I googled (dangerous to google) and it says to get off of hormones and see a hematologist if it keeps happening, as it could be a clotting problem (which could eventually lead to deep vein thrombosis, etc.). NO WAY am I stopping now as I have already lost 7 pounds, but if it happens again I might get concerned. Has anyone else doing this diet experienced this, and could it be related?

That sounds very scary to me. I'd talk to a doctor.

LeighB, I actually had a similar issue when I did my first round. What started out as tingling in my leg ended up being an excruciating pain that ultimately sent me to the ER (I drove myself it was that bad). Turns out I had a pretty massive clot in my leg. I didn't tell the doctor I was on HCG (out of fear yes), but upon doing my own research I learned that hormones could cause the blood to clot. I also read that there are other factors that could cause clotting (i.e. genetics--my Dad has dealt with clots for a few years) so I didn't want to immediately point the finger at hcg, but it did freak me out. After checking this forum I didn't find much of anything as far as others experiencing blood clots from the horomone. Long story short, I was put on a blood thinner for a few months and continue to have my blood (INR level) checked every few weeks to monitor it. I am still on HCG and haven't had any new clotting issues, but it does make me wonder.

Wow, that's scary. I wonder if we should take two aspirin a day while on this, just in case? Thanks for the info....I may see a hematologist now.
