I keep seeing to avoid the "sweet" fruits in P3, but then everyone mentions bananas, which I don't think taste sweet at all. So I'm confused... What fruits should we avoid for sure? Fruits I think are sweet and am concerned about if I can eat or not are clementines, tangelos, pineapple, cherries, grapes, peaches. I also find strawberrries really sweet, but obviously we can eat those.

People mostly say bananas, but when I compared them it actually shows oranges have more sugar than bananas. I ate all fruit for my 1st P3 and did fine-Just make its fresh fruit.

I don't have any research to back it up, but I think the reason Bananas are off is because they are starchy.(?)

Grapes are considered sweet, too. I don't believe it's based on someone's personal preference as to what is sweet to them, but some other scale. Was the glycemic index around back in Dr. S's day?

I would say bananas are a big no...they are one of the highest in sugar and starch of all fruits and vegetables. I personally limit myself to the lowest sugar fruits possible and only in small amounts during P3, as sweet fruits spike blood sugar and cause cravings and hunger for me. Compare an orange, 1 cup strawberries, and a banana.

    One medium banana (Calorieking.com data)

    Total Carbs. 26.9g 9%
    Dietary Fiber 3.1g 12%
    Sugars 14.4g

Carbs measure sugar, starch and fiber. You don't have to worry about fiber as it passes through undigested and has no calories. so you can subtract it out. So = there is 9.4 grams starch, when you subtract out the fiber and sugar from the total carb count.

    One medium orange
    Total Carbs. 15.5g 5%
    Dietary Fiber 3.1g 13%
    Sugars 12.2g

    One cup strawberries
    Total Carbs. 11.1g 4%
    Dietary Fiber 2.9g 12%
    Sugars 6.7g

    ....
    Here's a great page, too.

    http://www.thefruitpages.com/contents.shtml

I never did eat bananas but I know people who have with no problems. I ate mangoes successfully. Pineapple, too. I think fruits are fine in their natural form. I would not drink juice. I also ate the melba in P2. ha ha ha. I don't try to retrofit the diet to get more out of it. I think we get what we will get and there is not much you can do to change that. I also ate coconut and coconut water (not milk). I find fruit to be such a treat and it keeps me on the right road at other times when I'm tempted to stray so I eat what I feel like eating and I had a great P3 my first round.

    Minnie

(also ate lychees and mangosteen and rambutan, dragon fruit and guava <DF and guava on P2 even>....I am in Thailand lol)

srtaightscoop, -- Is there a threshold to how many grams of starch you would eat before you consider it too starchy?
