Can I get more info on what they are exactly and what we're allowed going into P4?

I've done some google searches,(This site seems to sum them up nicely: http://www.buzzle.com/articles/complex-carbohydrates-list.html) yet most of the lists I've found include whole grain breads and pastas ... yet those seem to be taboo to the rest of you.

I understand starting with starchy veggies, carrots, potatoes, corn, and then possibly oatmeal and rice (does it have to be brown? I hate brown rice)

But what else? Whole grain anything? (tortilla, bread, cereal, pasta?)

Are all beans ok now? chile beans? kidney beans? And how about nuts?

And then of course, no butter, cheese, or anything fatty can be paired WITH these items, right?

Amiedanny... you've got it right! I start with the root veggies first then add beans then grains (although I doing gluten-free.) Little to no mixing of fats and carbs... Regarding the mixing of fats and carbs, some keep on a day to day basis while others go meal by meal.

What about the whole grains issue? Can I have tortilla, bread, cereal, and pasta eventually, as long as it's whole grain?

try checking Glycemic index on the foods. I forget where I saw a complete list of foods, but I was surprised that white rice was I think "moderate' GI, which really isn't bad for P4. Using GI helps me in keeping cravings down. So, yes, generally whole grains can be tried, and if your body doesn't gain, then go for it , in moderation of course. IMHO

This sounds like the basic principle in Somersizing. Fruits alone, fat with proteins and/or vegetables and no fat with carbs. She has lots of great recipes that would be appropriate in p3 and p4.

Found the Glycemic index info: Search in P4 and it is listed as Tips/Maintenance P4. Detailed list of foods' GI.
