I had a partial hysterectomy 2 years ago (kept my ovaries). I no longer have a period (yeahhhhh) but I was wondering...would I still have a hormonal fluctuations that accompany the TOM and cause water retention? Or is it a non-issue now and I'm stalling for another reason? I don't have the extreme mood-swings at all like I did before the surgery. I only have the tenderness in my breasts every so often(maybe every 4 months) and even then it's nothing like it was before. Does anyone know anything about this?

bpmac, I had a partial H. almost six years ago, and I swear I still have cycles of pms, although milder. My breasts get larger and tender, my appetite changes etc. I have older sisters who are finished with menopause who swear that they still have some sort of cycling...it is like your body did it for so many years that it just can't stop completely! Regardless of that, while you still have functioning ovaries, you still have hormone cycling. One of the reasons they left them in for me was so that menopause would not be immediate and abrupt. So, go ahead and blame your stall on it...

You will still have the hormonal changes each month since you still have ovaries. I had a hysterectomy 17 years ago and they left one ovary... that one is just shutting down now.

bpmac-I am so glad you brought this subject to light! I had a partial hysterectomy a year ago, and gained 40 lbs. almost immediately. I consulted 2 different doctors with no results. I have the exact same symptoms of TOM that you described, and stalled in R1 and in R2. You are right to assume hormonal fluctuations. I finally paid for a saliva test out of pocket, as insurance doesn't recognize this, and found out I was estrogen dominate and had adrenal fatigue.
Now use a compounded progesterone cream everyday and it has changed my life! It also helps with breast tenderness! Mammograms were unbearable before I started using it.

Thanks so much for your help Ladies.
kbj, my dr. left mine for the same reason. I was only 41 at the time and didn't want to go into an early menopause. I'm so glad I got to keep them. And, like you furrysox, I also gained some weight afterwards too, about 15lbs. But I have no regrets at all about having it done, and didn't hesitate when I was told I needed the hysterectomy. I just ask them to give me long enough to get the freezer stocked and the house ready for me when I got out of hospital. Two weeks later,it was out. I was glad to be rid of the misery that went along with keeping the dang thing for as long as I did...lol.
I was thinking I would get to skip the dreaded stall from TOM that the others have to deal with. No such luck huh...lol.

You know, I was just wondering this myself. I'm on day 23 and have been stalled for 8 days now. This is my second round. For the last couple of days, I'm bloated. I haven't eaten anything different, haven't cheated. Drinking lots of water, had bowel movements (as much as you can on p2!). So I was just thinking, even though I've also had a partial, maybe I'm ovulating?? SOOOO hard to tell!

This sounds so familiar I too stalled in p2 and wondered the same thing since I still have my ovaries after hysterectomy
I was 39 and the Dr. told me he would not take them because they were ovaries of a 20 year old (go figure) lol

I had a hysterectomy in 2003, but have my ovaries, and I know TOM is here every month during the last week of the month. Bloating, little irratible--lot less than before the surgery, lethargy. I had not thought about it in terms of losing and this diet. I am going to go back to my journal and see if it had any effect on my losses. Thanks so much for this thread. Doh!! (slaps forehead)

I can't really tell anymore when my TOM is here except on the few months when I notice my rt. breast gets a little tender. Whereas before, it got so tender I could barely wash it. When having my mamograms done before the hysterectomy I had a huge fibroid mass in that same side. The year after I had the surgery, was the first year Dr. decided to let me have my mamm. only once per year instead of twice. Last month, when I had this years mamm., the mass had shrunk by half. It's amazing what our hormones can do to our bodies isnt it. The best thing about having the hyst. other than the obvious inconvience and pain, is I don't have to deal with those awful mood swings that affected me and everyone around me(poor hubby)..lol.
So I guess even if I still have to deal with the stall from TOM, I'm still fortunate cuz I don't have to deal with all the other. And I haven't really noticed any of the food cravings that went with my TOM either. I guess the cravings must have to do with replacing nutrients lost due to flow. IDK...maybe its just me.
