I just started on HCG R1 and am on VLCD2. I'm going to a conference out of town next week, so I'll be staying in a hotel and eating out a lot. There's supposed to be a fridge in the room, but the conference hotel is nowhere near a grocery store. I'm doing injections at home but have sublingual tablets for the trip.

How have you dealt with travel and eating out?

I really don't want to fall off the wagon any more than necessary (although I may have a glass of red wine now and then but will drink extra water with it). If I can get to a grocery store I can pick up some apples; I can't live on apples for five days, though.

I don't know if I could do P2 on the road, especially for business. Just my personal experience, but I was quite weak and spacey some days in the beginning, and the food requirements are so specific. I honestly would delay starting the diet until I was back, but that's me.

    corbow,

check out the recent discussions on the thread "July 6 VLCD 2". There are several travelers there talking about tuna packets, apples, beef jerky etc.

I just went on a trip and took all of my own food. I didn't think I could do it, but I did it with ziplock bags and Glad containers! I planned out when I would be eating each meal so I would be able to anticipate it and not let my mind wander to the food around me. It was kind of hard because sometimes I would be eating at odd times, but it worked out fine in the end.

Maybe you have more willpower than me, but if I would have started eating anything that I didn't bring myself, I would have gone way off course!

Hey Corbow I had a simular experience. While I traveled I looked for anything that was baked or grilled. If I couldn't find chicken or for a change I ordered the 8oz steak and only ate half and I had grilled chicken salad. I quizzed the waiter to no end. I asked for my vegetables to be steamed with no oils added. Tried not to eat the bread. Will say though I gained about 5 pounds part of it was because I probably ate a little too much and I couldn't get my water intake in while at the conference and on the plane. (bathroom breaks are very essential when you drink water) Good luck you may want to rethink and restart after you get back.

I had luck eating at a mexican restaurant. I asked the waiter for a BIG plate of lettuce and some chicken fajita meat. I asked him to make sure it was cooked with no oil. The chips were difficult to pass on, but I did it. I keep telling myself it is going to be worth it. And on days I passed on something bad, it seems my losses were better the next day. Psychological probably, but it worked!

Hi Corbow... I traveled quite a bit on my first two rounds, although for fun and usually only for 3 or 4 days. Anyway, I took prepackaged items - ready to eat tuna, 98% fat-free canned chicken, etc. Then at the hotel the would have fruit - apples, oranges in the gift shop - so I would pick up a couple of those. I did eat out a few times, but I just explained to the waiter that I very specific dietary needs that needed to be met. I managed to do that without having to tell people around me what I was doing...hehehe. I just ordered a plain salad with lemon slices to use as a dressing. Yes, I mixed my veggies when eating those salads.

While you're on this trip you'll be surprised at the ways you find to stay within protocol.

Thanks for the tips. I'll check out that other thread, too. I'll be in Vegas, so I imagine some of the meals will be buffets. I considered waiting to start until I got back, but I *really* wanted to drop a few pounds before the conference. The doctor I'm working with told me to "just do the best you can." I don't mind if I don't lose any more *during* the conference, but I'm hoping to at least avoid gaining anything back.
