The Volumetrics Eating Plan: Techniques And Recipes for Feeling Full on Fewer Calories by Barbara Rolls, PhD. Just bought it on half.com.... anyone familiar with this?
You don't really have to count calories per se with a volumetrics approach. The concept is really about filling up on lots of naturally low calorie foods so you don't have much room left for junk...and feel more satisfied while you are losing or maintaining your weight. For example, you could eat an entire bag of that pre-cut lettuce mix and some turkey for fewer calories than 1/3 of a typical hamburger. Or you could have several pieces of fruit for less calories than a small handful of granola. Or a 6-oz carton of Greek yogurt for less calories than an once of cheese. It's really just about making food choices that are very filling, without causing weight gain. This is how I eat in maintence. I like a lot of food to feel satisfied, and if I ate a large volume of very high calorie foods I'd gain weight pretty quickly. But not everyone needs that, some are fine with small portions, or their bodies naturally regulate their calorie levels and they reach a normal state of fullness with an appropriate amount of food before they gain. I'm not one of them...I always seem to want to overeat everything beyond what my body requires.
My issue is I didnt eat right as a kid. No veges and hardly fruits. I DONT LIKE THEM. So I have terrible eating habits. My issue also is I dont like to cook or the kitchen. Which is why I have so many problems. Dinner for me is a diet TV dinner....
