I know it'll have to wait till I'm out of P2, but when can you start introducing alcohol back into your system?

And no I'm not a lush, just a social drinker who misses her happy hour.

Bump - I'm dying to know for sure, too. I thought I read in P&I that you can enjoy an occasional glass of wine in P3, but it might be wishful thinking :)

    Found it...

From P&I: "It takes about 3 weeks before the weight reached at the end of the treatment becomes stable, i.e. does not show violent fluctuations after an occasional excess. During this period patients must realize that the so-called carbohydrates, that is sugar, rice, bread, potatoes, pastries, etc, are by far the most dangerous. If no carbohydrates whatsoever are eaten, fats can be indulged in somewhat more liberally and even small quantities of alcohol, such as a glass of wine with meals, does no harm, but as soon as fats and starch are combined things are very liable to get out of hand. This has to be observed very carefully during the first 3 weeks after the treatment is ended otherwise disappointments are almost sure to occur."

Yay - a little wine in P3 for me! I'll probably wait a week or two, then try it :)

Be careful! I was so excited about being able to have wine again and my favorite is Plum Wine (lots of sugar)!

If I could stop at just one glass I might be ok but I usually end up with 2.

Anyway, I'm up 2 lbs now because of it and tomorrow will probably be a steak day unless I do something crazy today.

    Stupid plum wine. =(

So, if my husband and I have beer in p4, we should not eat fats at the same time?

Dani, I feel your pain. I was excited to add my nightly glass of wine back in, when I get to p3, next week, until I realized that my fav red (Lambrusco) and fav white (late harvest riesling) both have 20 g carbs per 4 oz glass! Ouch! My wine glasses aren't even 4 oz...they're 8!!! I think, if I decide to imbibe, I will, at least in the beginning, stick to a zero or extremely low (under 5 g) carb distilled liquor with a zero cal mixer or straight up on ice. Either that, or I'm just going to have to develop a taste for the dryer, more "tannin-y" wines...yuck!

I'm the same way... How can you only have one glass, beer, etc. You have to have at least two or what's the point.

Well, I used to have a nightly "therapeutic" routine (after reading all the reports on the benefits) of drinking an 8 oz glass of red wine with a 1 oz. square of 70% or higher dark chocolate.

When I choose to drink for "social" reasons, I almost always choose the distilled liquors. I like a good "sipping" whiskey. Nice & smooth & mellow & I ALWAYS know exactly how much my body can handle, without getting intoxicated (with the distinct exception of tequila, which gives me indigestion & I avoid like a case of chicken pox!).
