I hear that you can eat anything you want as long as it isn't starch or sugar, any time you want, but I also hear that things have to be introduced slowly and that it is bad to introduce too many different foods at once. So I wanna do this right - does that mean if, say I want eggs one day I have to eat all eggs that day, or are all dairy items okay that day (eggs with cheese, sour cream, milk in coffee, yogurt). I am just at P3 and am frustrated because now that I have so much more freedom, I am scared to death of doing it wrong! And if you can only introduce "one thing at a time" how can you possibly eat enough of it to get enough calories for the day (15 eggs?!).

Would it hurt me to have eggs wih cheese and sour cream with tomatoes for breakfast and cooked ground beef burgers for lunch or dinner on the same day? What about a salad? Can I have cheeses and almonds with boiled egg and dressing in a salad? UGH I just don't want to risk doing it wrong or gaining. Thanks!

Introducing things slowly allows you to learn how each food affects you and effects the scale. It's best to add one new food a day. Eggs, cheese and nuts tend to be the biggest issues. By only adding one of these at a time you know which food is behind your gain...if you have a gain. After a day or two if there's no gain then you're good to add another food.

The first morning I always have scrambled eggs with cheese and 1/2 an avocado. lunch is a salad with everything (that is allowed) eggs, and real dressing and a whole chicken breast . Apple with a cheese stick for snacks. Dinner is usually some cauliflower with butter, a small salad and a steak.

Nuts and milk gets added the following week. Different fruits the next. This has always worked for me and I have always stabilized at or below my LIW. But each of us are different. I know that I can tolerate eggs and cheese pretty well, that's why I add them first.

Eat until you are satisfied, but don't overeat. You should never be hungry on P3. I love P3! One more week and I will be done with Round 4.....down 23 lbs!

melissa- you're right, if you only added one new food per day you'd lose your mind.... If people want to be cautious, i'd have them add eggs, dairy and nuts separately (see this thread: http://hcgdietinfo.com/hcgvanillaforum/discussion/2951/1/newcomer-information-phase-3/)

I generally recommend people eat meats, veggies and one fruit per day for the first 2-3 days of P3. this lets you know where your weight will "land", simply from having the weight of additional food in your system. once you know that weight, then you decide how cautious you want to be. the most conservative approach is to add eggs for 3 days in a row, but no other new foods, and see what your weight does. if it's ok, then cut the eggs and add dairy for 3 days. if that's ok, then do it with nuts. (you can add the foods in any order). i say to do them separately because if you have more than one minimal sensitivity your weight might be ok from adding one of them, but not a combination of them. i wouldn't worry too much about adding foods other than those except to watch what your weight does. if it goes up, try to ascertain what might have caused it and avoid that food for a couple of days before trying it again. if you gain every time you eat a certain food, you probably have a sensitivity to it.

of course the other approach is to throw caution to the wind, and add everything at one time. if your weight is stable, you know you're ok. if not, then you have to back up and start looking at each type of food.

one other thing is to consider how close you are to goal weight. up to the point where i was still 30# or more over my ideal weight, i could eat any foods on P3 and not gain- even foods i had documented sensitivities to (from blood work). but as i got closer to goal i could not get away with eating those foods.

many people conclude they're ok with certain foods because they stabilized fine at a high weight, only to find out that they can't stabilize with those foods at a lower weight- and i suspect that is the reason.

First, what is the ONE thing you really want to eat that is allowed on P3? Is it eggs, cheese, or dairy (3 different categories...). Let's say it's eggs....then start with eggs for bfast. You do not have to eat eggs ALL DAY. But, don't add dairy to the eggs (a little milk for scrambled is fine; no cheese, no sour cream). Any veggie and any fruit is allowed except the obviously starchy ones. Remember this; Hay day on fruits and veggies! When I start P3 I shop the produce aisle like it's candy ;-)

Monitor your weight for 2 days. If there is no significant gain, that food item is "cleared" for eating. If there is a gain, stop that item, get your weight in control and then introduce the next item on your list; maybe cheese. Now, cheese is like nuts; different cheeses/different nuts affect us differently. They are not one lump category. You may be able to eat cheddar and not brie....you may be able to eat walnuts and not peanuts. So these are item by item not by category.

Dairy (milk, cream, yogurt, cot chze) is one category.

Don't eliminate an item if it makes you gain once. You will need to revisit it and try it again.

I weigh more in P3 because I eat more/have more in my system. You have at least a 2lb cushion to operate in so don't panic and then react with panic dieting if you gain one pound. Let your body adjust (and your mind and emotions).

Fruits and veggies are your friends. I do not limit myself in either of these (except the obviously starchy ones). I use fruit as a treat. Have great salads (I make my own ranch but you'll have to find a protocol friendly one you like; sorry I can't help there. Enjoy veggies with butter or olive oil. Enjoy pork and beef with fat, dark chicken. What ever you like.

Just go slow, don't jump into food but do things one at a time and you will be fine. EVen if you have some struggles you will gain valuable information. Just don't freak out! ha ha.

minnie- i agree with your fruit and veggie comment. so many people get focused on getting in protein that they forget about those foods. personally, i do a little better in p3 if i limit my fruits- but i believe that's because i have chronic gut problems, and yeast is probably a factor. for most people i think fruits are fairly "friendly".

when you eat mostly protein, you don't generally get enough fiber. and if you can't have grains, then fruits and veggies are the way to accomplish that.

Melissas - I may be overly cautious but I added one new food every three days to make sure that I would know what caused a gain. I added more of the P2 portions in the proteins also -- so if you're adding eggs for instance.... I'd have an egg omelette with veges for breakfast, still eat my 2 fruits from P2 (apples, strawberries, grapefruit), still eat my vege portions and eat more of the P2 proteins with lunch and dinner.

Last round in P4 -- I added the same way....and I discovered weird things like one type of nut was fine...another type of nut caused a weight gain. There's no way I would have known that if I'd added more than one at a time.

Thanks for the info , it really helps since Im ready for P3 this Saturday. The only thing that still kind of confuses me is the fats. I get the whole add one food at a time, but does that include the fats? If I start on day 1 by increasing my protein, adding more vegetables,e tc.. can/should I add fats? Ex, if I add tuna, is sugar free mayo a testing food? or is it ok? Butter, olive oil, dressings?

I think they are ok to add in but still not sure about whether they are one of those add "foods" to test for a day or 2...

Sorry for my ignorance, Im just really nervous about this and want to do it right!

Fats should be fine. You do not add them in one by one, generally. I don't know if butter counts as dairy, though.... (I am not sensitive to dairy so butter does not affect me).

Mayo is eggs so I think you need to clear eggs before adding mayo...

So, add meat, veggies and fruit (I don't limit fruit; some people do but I also don't over eat fruit....) and oils. And, one thing to test.

Remember, no panic dieting. If there is an issue try to think through it clearly.
