Once the decision has been made to start this program, most people are eager to get going. These hints come from personal experience, the experience of others on the forum, from Trudeau’s book, and from the original protocol.

    1) Read “Pounds and Inches” by Dr. Simeon. Also, “The Weight Loss Cure” by Kevin Trudeau. Check out the “newcomer” threads on this forum for basic information.

    2) Before you start the 500-calorie diet, get all “unapproved” food out of your house (if you can). You can’t cheat with something if it’s not there. I put anything I can in the freezer- open packs of cheese, juice, meat. Give the fresh food to friends, and pack away your cereal and crackers someplace where you won’t see them on a daily basis. If you’re buying food like cookies or chips for the kids, make them keep it in their bedroom or somewhere away from the kitchen. Out of sight, out of mind….

    3) Start walking. Trudeau suggests that you walk an hour a day, but any amount is helpful. If walking is physically difficult for you, try using walking sticks or exercising in a pool. Lifting light weights is also good, and can be continued while on the protocol.

    4) If you’ve had any significant problems with Candida in the past, consider doing a Candida cleanse.

    5) Some of you may be doing this without your doctor‘s knowledge or approval. But if you have any serious medical problems, please consult with him or her before starting. They may not be familiar with the protocol, so consider bring them a copy of “Pounds and Inches” to read.

    6) Check the ingredients of your make-up, lotion, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner and deodorant. If any of them contain oil, you will want to find a similar product that is oil-free.

    7) Buy up packages of boneless, skinless chicken breasts, extra-lean hamburger (at least 95% lean), any kind of white fish, etc. (per the protocol). Weigh out 3.5 oz portions and put them in baggies in the freezer. Then in the evenings, you can decide what your meat will be for the next day and move it into the refrigerator to thaw.

    8) Prepare yourself mentally. You can do anything for 23 or 40 days. Concentrate on the positives and how much better you will feel after losing weight. If you’re comfortable telling others what you‘re doing, ask them for their support during the process. Pick a goal weight and keep telling yourself, “I weigh (x) pounds”. Take measurements and full-body pictures of yourself before starting.

    9) Although eating only organic food is not required by Dr. Simeon, Kevin Trudeau recommends it. You may want to research where you can purchase organic food locally.

    10) Make sure you have ordered all the supplies you will need. Buy the smallest size vials of Hcg you can afford, since your results will be better if you mix it fresh as often as possible. I do not recommend you use any Hcg that has been mixed for longer than 2 weeks. If you will be purchasing your shots pre-filled, make sure that they are mixed on the day you pick them up. Buy an approved Sharp’s container for your used needles.

    (continued)

    11) If you drink coffee or tea, make sure you have a good selection on hand. Also make sure you purchase approved sweeteners (Stevia and Saccharin).

    12) Start drinking water. While on the Hcg, you will need to drink 68 oz per day. If you’re not used to drinking this much, your kidneys will appreciate a little head start!

    13) Kevin Trudeau recommends eating apples and grapefruit every day. Personally, I’ve found that eating apples tends to decrease my craving for sugar.

    14) Try to cut back (or cut out) sugar as well as products made with white flour. If you do some of this ahead of time, you will be less likely to have headaches during the first few days of the 500-calorie diet. It’s also a good idea to eliminate (or limit) trans fats and high fructose corn syrup from your diet.

    15) Buy some B-12 drops, a B-complex vitamin, or talk to your doctor about getting weekly injections. Many people find that this increases their energy significantly while on the low-calorie diet.

    16) Eat breakfast. Trudeau states that this is important for increasing metabolism, decreasing your appetite, and for resetting the body’s weight set point. Also try to eat smaller amounts of food at one time, but more frequently throughout the day. Some people recommend 6x/day, others say every 3-4 hrs.

    17) Eat your dinner 3 ½ hrs before you go to bed. Your sleep will be better if your body is not busy digesting your food.

    18) Ideally, get to bed by 10 p.m. and get up at 6 a.m. Your body performs some much-needed tasks between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m.

    19) If you’ve had any history of difficulty digesting meat, purchase some digestive enzymes to take while on this program.

    20) RELAX! It is normal to feel some anxiety when trying something new. It is a learning process, and it will take you a while to get the “feel” for the program- but you will find the people on this forum to be friendly and helpful.

I'd like to know if anyone has done the candida cleanse and if so which product you used? Did it make you tired and sick and it was working to get the candida under control. I've read alot about this when I was doing Atkins but would like your advice!

    Thanks!

I appreciate your post so much....and you are right, I am anxious to start. I am doing this with my doctors knowledge, but not much help from him. Here I sit with a vial of 10,000 iu of HCG and I've read conflicting mixing instructions and I'm unsure about what dosage to use. Should I use 125 iu or 175 iu? Do I give myself an injection everyday since I've had a complete hysterectomy? I'm ashamed to admit that I'm an R.N., and I feel so stupid.

    Thanks for any help.

Carol, I answered this on another thread that you started.. not sure what the hysterectomy has to do with the price of tea in china...but, depending on whether you are doing sub q or IM, your dose should be 175 to 200 for sub q and 125iu for IM. Read the newcomer threads...do a search... you will find alot of answers there. Barb

Thanks Barb. I don't think the price of tea is affected, but I thought the number of days one injects might be. I found the newcomer section, thanks.

carole- you may want to order more hcg right away, because i don't recommend you use yours past 2 weeks. buying the smaller vials is better. you can buy the 5000 unit vials and just not use all of it, or even better, buy the 2000 unit ones.

No, not really. Men do this protocol as well, and use the same injection schedule as women. That is why I made that comment...I have never heard that asked before :))). The dose of hcg we take is so small compared to doses used in infertility. If you have a uterus, your TOM may come a bit early or you may skip althogether, but if you don't have one...you are fine. The injection schedule is set to try to avoid building up an immunity to the hcg. As a homone, its effectiveness is receptor mediated. After a number of doses, usually 40 or so, your body down regulates the number of receptors for it and it will become less effective. You will get hungry, stop losing weight, etc. Once you stop for 3 to 6 weeks, your body will increase the number of receptors back to normal again, and you are good to go for another round. I hope this helps! Barb
