Hi everyone...I'm Michelle, a 33 year old newcomer who is currently on VLCD 2 and am doing the drops. (Not sure if i'm missing terminology here so bare with me) I am on a Gluten Free Diet (so no melba toast) and am a Reactive Hypoglycemic (Insulin Resistant) which I take Metformin for. I normally eat breakfast and then take the Metformin to regulate the insulin spike. If I don't eat enough before taking it, I feel horrible. However, if I wait too long in the day to take the Metformin, I also feel horrible. Currently, I'm having my coffee & an apple for breakfast and then take my Metformin. There were many times yesterday, and now today, where I am light-headed & feel as if I'm going to pass out.

If you're familiar with Metformin/Glucophage do you think it would be smarter to eat more of my lunch at breakfast or wait to take the Metformin until lunch time?
Is there a gluten-free alternative to the melba toast that I could be eating?

Any other suggestions or tips would be appreciated!

You should talk to your doctor about not taking metformin while you are on hcg. You may not need to. The hcg may straighten out your metabolic resistance after a week or two. My husband quit his metformin, but ask your doctor first please!

You can eat gluten free pretzel sticks. Just compare the nutrition facts. I substitute 2 medium size pretzel sticks instead of melba toast. They are almost identical in fat, carbs, calories & sugars.

Thank you so much Freckles. I'm going to experiment today and tomorrow regarding the Metformin. I had coffee & strawberries w/stevia for breakfast...feeling like I may need my Metformin already.

I've never heard of GF Pretzel sticks...Yum! I wish I would have seen this reply before I made my trip to Whole Foods yesterday. Might be worth at trip back to try them out. Where do you usually buy them?

    Hey Michelle! =D

Sorry, y'all, I brought her here, and had to say HI! LOL!

Call Honey & Spice and ask them if they have the GF pretzel sticks!!!! That would surely be a shorter trip! HOWEVER... lol... if you go back to Whole Foods, I might send you some money to pick me up some of this Ezekial bread the P4 peeps are using =/ I know I don't have time to get out there lmao! Unless I go on the weekend and take four kids... uh... nah... I'll pass lol. The bread can't be worth all that!

I've seen the Ezekial bread before...I may have even bought it myself. What's so special about it regards to this diet?

You can't have them on the diet but they are a good choice when you start adding starches back in because they are sprouted grain which is way healthier than normal bread.

Thanks Grammy! I buy flaxseed bread from Whole Foods by made by Glutino. I wonder if that would work in P3. What exactly is considered low carb? Like how many carbs or less????

You don't really count carbs but you eat no sugar or no starch. No grains in P3 and the flaxseed bread I've seen has rice in it which is a grain. So wait until P4 for that. :-)
