So I'm in R1P2D24 of VLCD, and honestly I miss my products more than the food! I'm still not really confident about checking labels and such, although I've done my best to research unfamiliar ingredients.
I've been using organic shampoo/conditioner/bodywash and I find the smell really unpleasant, but I'll deal with it.
I've switched to the BE mineral makeup, which I actually like. I'll likely keep using it.
The thing I miss the most is LIP GLOSS. I tried lipstick. I hate it with a passion. BE has a line that they call Buxom Lip Polish, and although nothing in the ingredients jumps out at me, it's definitely more glossy and I'm afraid to try it. Can someone clarify a little bit about why lipstick is okay but gloss isn't? Are there specific ingredients to look for?
Another question I have is about products that contain essential oils; I'm unclear about whether or not those count as food oils.
Last question - most of the skin care products I use are medical-grade that I get from the dermatologist. I still check them, but by nature they don't contain any oils. However, I need to use a 30+ sunblock with them. The mineral makeup has 15, but that's not enough. Has anyone used a sunblock for faces that doesn't interfere with the diet?
Hi karene Lip glosses sometimes contain castor oil, jojoba or other oils. Look for glosses with no oils except mineral oil. A couple I found that fit this bill, elf hypershine, cover girl wetslicks. I've used both of these on protocol w no trouble. Also a great solution for lips is 100% petroleum jelly. Some say carmex is ok but I read the ingredients and it has lanolin and cocoa butter, both of which are absorbed fats, as I understand it. Petrolatum and mineral oil are not absorbed as fat, glycerin is in question but most people seem to have used glycerin containing products, myself included without incident. Glycerin is usually the moisturizer in products labeled oil free.
Oh good! This is actually a huge relief...I don't think my mineral lip gloss has any of those ingredients! I knew that castor oil was a no-no. It may have glycerin, but I've used glycerin products all along and have had very good losses.
I also use Carmex and haven't had any problems. I use my usual hair products and body wash. I stopped using my concealer, don't usually use foundation anyways, and switched my face lotion to Neutrogena, water based.
I don't use much hand lotion on P2 (which is like cutting off my right arm!) but when I do I use corn huskers lotion, baby oil and I believe some have been ok with the Johnson's original baby lotion.
Regarding sunblock, pure vitamin C will increase your skin's protection substantially. I usually get it in powder form, mix with a little water in my palm, and then splash it on my face. I always use that in summer around the pool too. It has the added advantage of soaking into your skin too, so it doesn't wash off like some sunscreens can if you swim.
I used all organic on my first round, but not on the second one and the weight loss was about the same. I would think anything that lists oil of any kind would be a no-no if you are sensitive. Sorry.
Gotta say this, and I know I'm a newbie, but I think this part of the regimen is hooey...unless you're really greasing up and slathering on organic lipgloss...I'm not budging from my beauty routine. Just IMHO....YMMV LOL
