I've been trying different foods this week, preparing myself for when I start, once my hcg arrives (soon I hope). Since our list of food is so limited I thought I better learn to like some of this stuff or I'll be eating nothing but chicken & cucumbers.

I bought a big bag of red radishes today, I've had them before, in salads & such but never cooked. I came across a couple of recipes for cooked radishes & just couldn't imagine it, but I thought in the interest of smaller pants I'd give it a go.

After washing & cutting up about 1 cup of radishes I added garlic, bit of salt & pepper & some freeze dried herbs, threw them in the oven & by God they are delish! Almost like roasted potatoes. If I had to describe it better I'd say a cross between a potatoe & a very light turnip. Definately worth a try if you're missing the potato element in your diet like I know i will.

Did anyone else try something for the first time & really enjoy it?? If so what?

ps. What the heck does fennel taste like & how do you cook it? it looks like a set of bagpipes to me

I've never been a huge fan of celery, but on this diet I can't believe the taste of it. It's sweet, it's complex. It's become one of my favorite things to eat.

That was my fear TracyH, I'm not a huge veggie fan, and the ones I do love aren't on the protocol (broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, corn) so other than lettuce, cucumbers & cabbage I was limited. I am not a fan of tomatoes either but the other day I sliced one up, not too thick, sprinked salt & pepper & a bit of basil on it & grilled it on the GF grill & its was pretty good.

Fennel has a bit of a licorice taste -- more so if eaten raw, less if cooked. It's very nice (and filling) if sauteed in a bit of broth with Italian seasonings. I also like adding it to soups. Generally, you'll just want to slice the bulb. It doesn't cook down much, so keep the slices thin.

LOVE the cooked radishes. I'd never tried cooking them until this diet. Had them last week sauteed and served with some grilled mahi topped with cucumber salsa. Yummy!
