I use Metformin and Spironolactone for my PCOS. They affect my hormones, so I am wondering if these medications will affect my weight loss. I am willing to go off them for the time I need to be on the injections if it is necessary. Has anyone had experience with this?

    Thanks!

I too have PCOS and was on Metformin when I started the diet. I went through an actual doctor for this protocol and he told me to stop taking it if I felt especially lightheaded, this meant that my blood sugar was dropping too low. I have to admit but day 5 of the VLCD I was very lightheaded, so I stopped taking it. I felt fine shortly after that.
I have sense finished my 40 day round of shots and am in the maintenance phase. The doctor took another round of blood work and determined that I should not go back on the metformin. I do not need it now, but that has always been the issue with me and my PCOS. Once I lose the weight my PCOS is controlled. So I am very grateful for the final effect of losing the weight and no more pill taking.

JoJoG how much did you lose? Thank you for your post. My daughter is on Metaformin. I didn't know if it was better for her to stay on it or go off it during HCG? At least the lightheaded gives me an idea of what she should look for. THANKS

I had to go off my metformin within a week of doing the diet the first time because I kept having low lows....like in the 40s. I stopped the metformin but I still had to keep an eye out for lows (I'm diabetic) so she really needs to keep an eye on her sugars.

I continued taking my Metformin (500mg 3X a day), but I have not had any problems with my blood sugar. I thought I would, but, fortunately, I have not. It doesn't seem to affect my losses. I'm on VLCD 15 & have lost 15.8 lbs so far. I think it makes a big difference if you are taking it for insulin resistance (me) or for diabetes. I would think a diabetic might be more prone to ill effects from the low blood sugar, since they're taking supplementary insulin. Just a theory, but maybe that's why I haven't had a problem with it.

Either that, or it explains the "euphoria" I've been feeling...I'm disoriented from the low blood sugar!!! ROTFL!!! J/K.

    Glittery,

The Spirolactone will also help with water retention. I take it just before my TOM and I feel a difference.
