I have to have dental surgery in 1 week, and am going under a general anesthetic. Should I go off the hcg injections? I will be fasting all day-probably until the next morning. Will this surgery make me gain weight because fo the meds?

Well what type of surgery are you going to have? Is it just simple extractions or something more serious? Im a Dental Assistant and if its just a simple extraction then the only pain meds usually given out is vicodin. I dont think those will make you gain any weight there just a pain killer, i'll try and check to see what's in them. Let me know what type of surgery your going to have and i'll see what kind of advice I can give you.

Ok this is what I found thats in vicodin~

    Vicodin
Vicodin is a trademarked brand narcotic analgesic product containing hydrocodone and paracetamol (also known as acetaminophen). Vicodin is used to relieve moderate to severe pain.[1] It is usually found in tablet form with either the names Vicodin, Vicodin ES, or Vicodin HP imprinted on one side. Analgesics with the same chemical composition and a similar physical appearance are found under many other trade names, including Anexsia, Anolor DH5, Bancap HC, Zydone, Dolacet, Lorcet, Lortab, and Norco. The hydrocodone/paracetamol drug formula is also available under generic brands. The paracetamol in the formula increases the effects of the hydrocodone. Hydrocodone also comes in a combination with ibuprofen, available under the trade name Vicoprofen.

    What's inside Vicodin

This is the first time for me doing this diet so im not sure what type of meds are ok but hopefully one of the nurse's on here will chime in a let you know if this type of pain med will be ok for you to take. As for any oral surgery the instructions they will give you at the dentist office will be for you to be on a liquid diet for a few days, and only soft foods that can easily be swallowed without the need for chewing. You will be able to eat like a chicken broth, but as for your protien intake im not sure what you will want to do as you will not be able to chew very well cause of the pain. Let me know the type of oral surgery you need to have and I'll see if I can come up with something for you to do so you can keep taking your HCG.

I had teeth pulled during my 1st p2, used egg white protein powder mixed with water for my protein. I did have cottage cheese my 2nd day (couple of tbs) because of the pain medicine, needed something in my stomach, and couldn't do 3 protein shakes or it would be too much for one day. I also used the Motts unsweetened,no sugar added applesauce. Just one little one, no way could I even chew an apple for my fruit.

This thread caught my eye because I am planning on having surgery in June. I work for the school and will be off then. I am going to have a tubal ligation and see if they will take my gallbladder at the same time (I've had probs w it for almost 7 years). Just wondering what I should do as well. After I'm hoping to do my last round and get my hypothalamus reset permanently. Anyone on here done something similar?

    Hi all,
I am a nurse. I screen patients for anesthesia for surgery. You should not have to stop the injections for surgery. I agree the protein powder and applesauce are probably your best options (or eggs). Check the P&I manuscript for how to do eggs (I can't remember.) The HCG itself should not cause any problems, just get in your fluids! And the vicodin is a narcotic pain reliever with tylenol in it. It should not cause any problems with the diet.

Ok then you should be fine with keeping on your HCG. Just remember to drink plenty of fluids and I know its totally off protocol but you may want to try the things that sezzy mentioned for your protein intake i think that would be your best bet. And as Mary Ann stated the vicodin should be fine. Good luck, and let us know if they put you on a different pain reliever so we can make sure its ok also.

hello, i just started the hcg diet saturday. However, i am scheduled to have a hysterectomy in 2 weeks. Anesthesia wants me to stop the diet immediately. Of everything i have researched, hcg is ok under general anesthesia?? Am i not correct? I am thinking to stop the incections a week before and go on a 800 cal a day diet until i can resume a week later. Of course i dont want to do this because im doing so good on the diet. Is there any issues that i should be concerned about if i do decide to stay on the hcg? Will anesthesia know?
