Urination…Quite the Sensation!

Rate this Entry
Yesterday was VLCD #1 of R2 and my bladder wasted no time in reminding me that frequent trips to the restroom are a big part of P2. It was so bad at work that I finally stopped by my supervisor’s office to explain my constant (and sometimes urgent) schlepp down the hall. You see, her office is conveniently located on a corner and I must pass it each time I need to make a piddle deposit in the porcelain throne.

If memory serves me well, the first week is the worst but the frequent trips continue the entire duration of P2. This brings up a few questions. So how much water is enough? Can I drink too much? And how can I cut down on my urination vacations?

From what I’ve read, the golden rule of them is you should consume ½ ounce of water for every pound you weight. Example: 200 lbs X .5 = 100 ounces of water. If you’re new to drinking copious amounts of water, my suggestion to you is to build up to your goal over a few days instead of trying to drown yourself from day one.

Apparently you can drink too much water! Being from Arizona, I find that hard to believe, but it is true. If you drink too much water you can flush too many minerals from your system, create an electrolyte imbalance, and mess up your system. Here’s a link explaining the phenomenon:

But can we cut down our trips to toilet? I know for me, I don’t mind the frequent trips because I spend most of my day sitting in front of a computer terminal or in meetings…sitting being the operative word. Getting up and sauntering down the hall gives me a nice break. I do, however, try to drink the bulk of my water allotment by 4:00 p.m. so I don’t have to get up a half dozen times during the night. I don’t know about you but sleep is a precious commodity and I need all that I can get. Don’t want to waste my Zzzzzz’s having to pee more than is needed! So drink earlier in the day and try to have your last drink of fluids by 7:00 p.m.

One of the most valuable things I learned in R1 is that you can flush too many precious minerals out of your system when you urinate often. About a 7-10 days into the VLCD stage I started to experience extreme muscle fatigue, twitches, and cramps at night. After some digging around on the boards I found that this was quite common among hCG-ers and the best thing to do was take supplements to replace what I was losing. I started taking potassium and a calcium/magnesium/D3 combo and within 24 hours everything was back to normal. Word of caution with supplements - BE VERY CAREFUL TAKING THEM ON AN EMPTY STOMACH! I also learned very quickly that if I took them in the morning before I had anything in my tummy, I was puking them back up in about 10 minutes. Now I take them with either lunch or dinner and it works out just fine.

So drink your water lads and lassies! But don't over do it either...stick to about 1/2 ounce per pound of body weight and you do be good to go. BTW, I count all my herbal tea and coffee as part of my daily allowance, so it does add up quickly.

Now if I can just figure save some trees by using less toilet paper during P2...

This was perfect! I was just about to start uasking around to find out just how much water I need. Apparently my 10-12 cups was way over what I need according to the 0.5oz/lb. But I can totally relate the frequent Potty trips. Ahhhh, you make me laugh.

Glad you enjoyed it! Water is such a huge challenge to get right when you're first starting out.

Best of luck to you on your hCG journey!
