Notes from a "clean up" round..R2/P2...half pound gain from Baja Fresh

Rate this Entry
I think the same thing happened last round, but it was one of those days where I just didn't care!

I got a Groupon for Baja Fresh and had a salad with romaine lettuce, grilled chicken and pico de gallo. No dressing, no cheese, no tortilla strips. And I didn't finish it.

Well, the scale greeted me with a half pound gain this morning.

The rest of the day was grilled chicken and a small apple for lunch, the Baja Fresh for dinner, and that's it! I even counted the tomato as my fruit and the onion as my vegetable, and still....restaurant food...

I swear they do something to their food, enhancers, spices, something, who knows what. Almost impossible to figure out when eating restaurant food. That's why on my p2, I stay home, it's easier that way. Try not to be discouraged, it'll drop either tomorrow or the next day.

Dubbles I knew this going in, that they either put some oil on the chicken before grilling or it has enhancers.
I found out in P3 last round that the only restaurant I could eat at and not gain weight is one that serves organic food. I actually ate a salad with chicken, cheese, pistachios, mixed veggies and dressing and lost the next day. Contrast that with a non-chain restaurant, and I gained with a careful meal.

I have some leftover pico that I'm going to eat today with chicken I made at home. My guess it was the chicken that did it.

    Thanks for the response!

That just kinda sucks, though, doesn't it. I mean it would be nice to get spiffed up, go out to eat, and feel like the food wasn't going to be laden with stuff to make u gain. It's just frustrating.

I agree, it's frustrating not having good choices at the restaurants. I had to bite the bullet in P3 and gain cause I LOVE Italian Beef Sandwiches. Always a 2 lb gain and followed with a steak day a 2 lb loss. Heck of a way to have to live but looks like it's gonna be my future!

JAN, It's kind of like splurging on something you love (maybe a dress or handbag or vacation) and cutting back somewhere else, only with food. Just another tradeoff.

At least you know the terms of the deal going in! I did...I actually thought I would just stay the same, not gain. But...lesson learned..AGAIN!

DubblesIt would be nice, wouldn't it?????

I have found that even with non-chain restaurants, I still gain.

My favorite dish at a local place is baba ghanouj, which is eggplant, olive oil, a bit of tahini (sesame paste) and I eat it with diced cucumbers, not even with the pita bread. And still...I gain.

It does kinda suck what's happened to our food supply.

Well, perhaps the pico is a culprit after all. I ate some with chicken I made at home, and soon afterwards, my stomach felt bloated and my pants are tight.

Go figure. There really should not be anything in it to cause this kind of reaction. Maybe it's just the ingredients themselves, not whatever Baja Fresh has done. But still, this reaction from a small amount of chopped tomatoes, onions and seasonings...sucks. But, at least I know now.

I have a lingering question... If I am leaving town and may have to rely on restaurant(s), do I continue to take my hcg drops even on the day(s) I may splurge? or do I stop them the use them again once I start on the strict 500 cal of Dr. Simeon? i'm on round 1, phase 2, day 2 of 500 cal... I plan on doing hcg for a total or 14-20 days. I only want to lose 20 or so pounds... HELP

That depends on a few things:
How long will you be out of town? Overnight? A few days? When in P2 would this be? If it's before 23 doses, (actually 23 days' worth of doses, Dr. S was referring to injections when he discussed planned interruptions) then you should continue the drops and do the absolute best you can.

The Baja Fresh reaction may have been due to a food sensitivity, because the ingredients are not really off protocol. When I have had to be out of town on P2 I have done the following to keep as "clean" as possible:

    1) Find a Whole Foods and get chicken, veggies & fruit from the hot/cold bar and eat as many meals as possible that way
    2) Get a fridge in my hotel room and shop for as much of my food as possible at the market
    3) When eating at a restaurant, I order protocol foods, ask for them to be cooked without oil or butter, and if I'm told that's not possible, I ask for them to be cooked with as little fat as possible, circumstances permitting, I pat the food dry. Ordering protocol foods, even if they are cooked with some fat keeps your head in the game and is less disruptive than just going off completely.

That said, when we had an Hcg lunch in Feb, grammy ordered tuna because it was served raw, so even though it was a fatty fish not on protocol, she didn't have to worry about how much fat was in it. So if you like sashimi, maybe go for that. But keep your head in the diet.

    Hope that helps!
