PearlyMae's Big Adventure to get Little

Onward!

I eat a LOT of chicken. When it comes right down to it, I am close to clucking. I don't mind, though, because I can cook it about 8 million ways and I like them all.

I also eat hamburger, bacon, eggs, an occasional steak, an apple a day, blueberries and strawberries for breakfast, with Full Fat plain yogurt. I enjoy unsalted, raw almonds, pecans and cashews. I eat all salad veggies, and try to get one or two other green veggies in every day. I enjoy plenty of dairy, but mostly use it as a condiment and don’t rely on it as a protein: HWC in my coffee and to fluff up my omelets, cheese sprinkled on whatever, cream cheese on banana bread made with almond flour, ReadyWhip on “pancakes” made from eggs and cream cheese, mayo on a BLT but with Ooopsie rolls for buns, and butter---well, since I really do not eat bread, white potatoes, rice, pasta, crackers, what DOES one put butter ON? I will put a pat in the pan before I cook eggs, I guess!

I make a pizza with a cheese crisp crust, and figure I will gain for a day, because between the cheese in the crust and the cheese in the topping, that’s a lot of cheese.

I drink every kind of flavored water I can find that is no sodium and sparkling, either unsweetened or sweetened with Stevia. I allow myself a few that are sweetened with Splenda and mostly avoid the rest. I consider a Diet Mt. Dew both a treat and a cheat! I’ve discovered Ocean Spray Diet Cranberry juices, with 5 calories and sucralose. They seem to be fine for me and were even before the T3 dose changed.

I stay active, but I am not the work-out type. I’d rather mow the lawn and weed the garden than go to a gym.

Supplements? I take Vitamin C (EmergenC Five with low sugar) with a half tsp of sulfur powder, (for body aches—very much another thyroid symptom I’ve had for 20 years and this has helped tremendously!) 1 tsp of psyllium powder (Walmart generic sugar-free Metamucil) for extra fiber, and a ¼ tsp on cinnamon, which is for “untangling Alzheimer’s” (who knows but it can’t hurt!) Evenings, I take magnesium and alpha lipoic acid, both to manage blood sugar. Between blood sugar and thyroid plus family history, I’m a shoe-in for Alzheimer’s…but maybe I can keep it at bay a few more years.

This morning, I weighed 126. That’s .8 below my Original LIW. And a way better than 173! But I know I have to pay attention every day. The no-sugar thing (and when I say sugar, by now you know that STARCH is the same dang thing) is not just about weight loss, but I think weight is a good indicator of what is working.

Alzheimer’s and Dementia are being looked at as a kind of ‘diabetes of the brain’ so for sure, lowering my sugar intake (after sooooo many years of managing my hypoglycemia by sucking on a Pepsi!) has to be good for my long term health.

We shall see. After all, I’m still on the Journey.
