Dukan, first weekend DONE!

Rate this Entry
(In case you didn't notice, this is a personal comparison between Dukan and HCG. I'm not giving advice to change anything)

Dukan, first weekend down!

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday are now under my Dukan belt. I’m still in the ATTACK! Phase, meaning I’ll only eat protein and fat free dairy until the end of this week.

I was nervous starting because I was afraid that the foods I’d be adding that are “Dukan friendly” aren’t exactly HCG friendly. Such as, flavored yogurts, sugarfree gum, lunch meat (not from the deli) and of course the oat bran. But I’ve been steadily losing every day so far.

Here’s an example of what I’m eating:

B: Activia yogurt light vanilla, homemade chicken meatballs (ground chicken, cottage cheese, oat bran, egg whites)
SN: 6 ounces fat free Nancy’s natural yogurt
L: 2 salmon burger patties and the rest of my leftover homemade meatballs
SN: Seasoned shrimp and a Dannon light raspberry flavor
D: Small chicken breast with a creamy sauce (yogurt, cream cheese, spices)
SN: Lunch meat roll ups (3 pieces each of smoked turkey and plain rolled up with cream cheese) and a sugar free Jello

I am also walking 20-40 minutes a day on the treadmill (part of the prescribed program)

I started Dukan after a major major major binge throughout the week that ended up in an instant and horrifying gain of 7lbs. So until I reach 164, I don’t consider any of this “progress”… just getting back to my starting point. Then I’ll start getting excited!

Starting weight with Dukan: 171.0
Today’s weight: 166.2

Today I’m actually thinking I’ll go a little HCG and do a shake day to see if I can’t wipe out the last couple pounds I gained during the binge. I’ll have an egg white protein shake for breakfast, for lunch, and a large chicken breast for dinner. I’m also drinking coffee with nonfat milk and will have an activia yogurt (my digestive system loves this stuff).

After my “shake day” I’ll continue on with the ATTACK! Phase until Friday. The shake day is actually not really recommended with Dukan (Dr. Dukan hates protein shakes) but it worked really well before and I’d love to take off those bonus binge pounds really quick.. if I can. If they don’t budge I’ll return to ATTACK! Eating.

The amazing thing to me is I’m not gaining or swelling eating the fake sugars and starch. I thought I’d be doomed. But really, I’m just fine! (Albeit, I don’t scarf down a whole lot of it either)

Wish me luck for my “shake day” and high five me for this actually WORKING!

So, are you doing Dukan because you don't think the hcg losses are maintainable?

I think the HCG losses are maintainable, but for me personally it's not that realistic. I can't monitor everything I eat ALL the time- such as out or with family and whatnot. I can't always be asking what's in the dressing and what did you marinate the chicken in. It's just ridiculous. And when I mess up in P3, the weight FLIES on and in large quantities. Dukan allows it's dieters two "celebration meals" per week in their version of P3, and isn't so strict on the hidden ingredients of food. I feel like HCG almost... ruined me in a sense. Never before did I gain so rapidly after a splurge. I can't tell you I will never splurge in my life. I mean, come on. Life happens. I will always be more aware of what I'm putting in my body- but sometimes you really just don't have as much control as you want/need for HCG. I can't make every meal I consume- I'd have no social life. It's just NOT realistic for my lifestyle.

So, I'm not bashing HCG, it's done wonderful things for me. But the maintenance phase isn't panning out that great for me (and I've been in a continual P3 for almost two months). That, with the combination of more weight to lose, has led me to Dukan- which in many ways is similar. But, yes, more forgiving and realistic for me to maintain in the long run. Like I've said before, I'll be combining principals of both- paying more attention to hidden/weird crap in labels, staying away from processed foods, making my own meals as often as humanly possible. But, yes, Dukan is more flexible for me personally.

I'm posting my journey on here because it's been discussed by others, and no one has posted anything about losing weight after HGC which is a question I've posted more than once. What happens after HCG? Can you lose weight after "losing weight"? How does the body react in the long run?

I thought it might be helpful to others, and this forum has been such a substantial place of encouragement and support.

Yeah, I get it. Maintenance has been a concern for me as well, but I just feel like i'm probably just going to be low carb for life and get over it. I'm starting round three next week, and will checking here often. I'll be interested to see your progress on Dukan.

I, too will probably always live a lower carb lifestyle. But more carbs than what I think I'd get with HCG, you know? The P3 of Dukan allows breads and fruit and stuff like that- but it's also very scripted in what's allowed. Less room for error in the Dukan P3. Which, would make the whole thing more maintainable- you're still cementing the weight loss but don't have to OBSESS about it so much.

Dr Oz's topic today is apparently the Dukan diet so it seems that it will probably pick up speed here in the US. Congrats on your loses!

I'll have to record Dr. Oz and the Dukan diet and watch it on the treadmill :-) My husband will LOOOVE that haha!
