Health and Happiness: My Journey

Making Goals for the Future: What Do I Want in My Life and My "Diet?"

Happy Monday Everyone!

Well, I'd like to start off by commending everyone who braved their SuperBowl parties and fought the temptations. I, for one, holed up at home like a big ol' chicken. Rather than watching the SuperBowl (not a huge football fan, but congrats to all you Raven's fans!), I used my time to do a little bit of thinking about what I've missed in my life since my first round, and what I would like to have, specifically, to be content with my eating habits for life.

I put together a little list detailing what I would like to have in my life and my "diet" after I'm finished with P4. A little premature as I'm still in P2, but I actually found it super therapeutic, and it gave me a little direction in my planning for the upcoming Phases. I'd recommend everyone give it a try! I found that my "wants" were actually very healthy, very do-able, and all part of a well rounded, nutritious diet. Seeing it in list format definitely helped me realize that I CAN eat healthy, and be very happy doing so!

Things I Want In My Life
(Not really in any particular order!)

#1. Fruits: Bananas, Pears, Apples, Blueberries, Strawberries, Watermelon, Cantelope, Pineapple, Grapes, Raisins, Craisins, Figs, Dates!

#2. Vegetables: Asparagus, Green Beans, Wax Beans, Carrots, Peas, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Spaghetti Squash, Snap Peas, Corn, Squash, Pumpkin, Sweet Potato, Brussels Sprouts, Peppers, Onions, Jicama

#3. Healthy Grains: (Gluten Free) Quinoa, Brown Rice, Wild Rice, Oats

#4. Beans and Legumes: Black Beans, Kidney Beans, Garbanzo Beans, Chickpeas (Hummus!), Lentils, Cashews, Peanuts (Peanut butter)

#5. Nuts: Almonds (Almond Butter), Pecans, Walnuts, Hazelnuts

#6. Meats: Chicken, Lean cuts of Beef (Homemade Beef Jerky), Turkey (Turkey Bacon!), Ham (on occasion), Pork, Bison

#7. Oatmeal: (Gluten Free) Steel Cut Oats...forget the instant!

#8. Soup : (Gluten Free) Organic Natural Canned Soups and Hearty Homemade!

#9. Granola: (Gluten Free)

#10. Cheese: In moderation of course!

#11. FLEXIBILITY: Once a month Sushi Date with my Hubby, Occasional healthy frozen yogurt

#12. Chocolate: This one's easy, I can make this healthy for myself!

*FREEDOM* No more counting calories, carbs, or fat. Just eating healthy, whole foods 99% of the time. Making sure that my nutrients are coming from rich, natural sources. Eating only when I am hungry and stopping when I'm satisfied (Key Word! Satisfied...not full). Living a life where I am conscious of my food choices, but not ruled by them.

I'm finally at a place where I look in the mirror and don't cringe at my body...I haven't felt this way since childhood. HCG has brought me to a more confident and healthy place, and as I prepare to move into the maintenance phase of my life, it's MY responsibility to take the rest of my journey into my own hands. HCG has healed my body, now its my job to follow up and provide the care it needs, physically AND psychologically, to bring my self to a place where I can be at peace with myself and my relationship with food.

I swear we are in the same frame of mind! Well written, SM!!! I couldn't have laid it out there any better and I'm on the same page with you! ESPECIALLY about the "no counting calories!" I just want to be educated enough when this is over that I can make wise choices without obsessing and enjoy life! You are amazing! Just sayin'!
