Thread: Anybody Eating Vegan/vegetarian on HCG??

  1. #13
I am a fat vegan with a very non existant metabolism. I usually only eat 500 to 800 cals per day. I am on day 39 using drops. I have only lost 15 lbs. Is it because I did not eat any meat? Does the protocol not work on a vegan diet?

Dayna, look at it this way...what other diet would allow you to lose 15 pounds in just over a month? Most diets are only 4-5 pounds a month! Simeon does say vegetarians might not lose as much...but you need to stick to 500 calories, not 800 to see maximum results. Read Pounds and Inches again as to why that is the case, there's a link on this site. I was a vegetarian before I started the protocol but did eat chicken and fish as I really wanted the weight off more than anything. I switched to some other options after a couple weeks, and continued to lose using shakes, plain or crumbled Quorn, eggs and cottage cheese.

I am very vegan and am in preparation of collection foods necessary. I have protein sources other than whey, and bcaas to fill protein quotient. I've never been deficient in protein without animal products. May be the new year before I start using the hcg.

    cheers!

    Hi James,

I'm a vegetarian...not quite a vegan as I do have milk in coffee and cheese but I am on my second round of HCG as a vegan. I WAS protein deficient when I started this diet because I couldn't eat protein sources available to vegans (pulses, beans, soy etc). However, I chose rice protein powder as my protein of choice for P2 and I've never felt better! I lost 27lbs in 25 days on my first round and I am close to 10lbs for my second round (I'm on day 21)...10lbs isn't great but I think it's that I am at a "normal" weight now (bmi=22) and I'm just trying to lose 3 more lbs...you slow down w/less to lose. I'm also running 4 miles 2-3 times a week in round 2...couldn't do THIS before! I find exercise gets your mind and appetite off thoughts of food

So this diet is def. workable for vegans. You do have more options than cottage cheese and soy and you do not become protein deficient unless you don't eat/drink about 70g protein a day...everyone seems to worry about deficiency...I'd never even approached 70g/day in my life so I was actually in excess!!! (for me)

Anyway, good luck if you decide to try HCG after the holidays! It is REALLY worth it!!!

Can you tell me please how you make the rice protein powder work for you? What kind do you use? I bought two different kinds, brown rice, which I can't stand the taste of, and regular rice, which tastes okay but I can't get the powders to dissovle and the texture turns me off. What do you think I could do to make these more palatable? Thanks!

    Hi Tia,

I'd say these powders definitely take getting used too My first round, I stuck to unflavored sunwarrior. I often put it in the blender w/water, an apple and cinnamon and it was a little more palateable. This round, my second, I've used the chocolate, vanilla sun warriors, Raw protein and Boku...all essentially rice...Boku's a little more rogue-esque though. W/the vanilla I made sure it was ice cold (before drinking)and put it in the blender (2 scoops to about 3-4 cups water) and a splash of banana (unsweetened) flavoring. The chocolate by itself, isn't bad either. So adding unsweetened flavorings works, must be mixed in a blender or shaken hard in a bottle (stirring doesn't usually do it) and adding extra water can make the texture a little easier to handle. I can tell you that by the end of the round, even consuming a teaspoon of the powder tasted good

You've probably been to the site but this site contains a lot of recipes using Sunwarrior. I don't have time to cook so I've relied solely on the shakes but some of these sound good....

Hope this helps a little! (P.S...you could also try some cooled flavoured teas (e.g., apple/cinnamon tea) for your mixing water...might help w/the flavor?

Thanks upat4, I didn't blend it, I guess that would help. I haven't seen those recipes, I'll check them out.

Thrilled to see this thread. My diet has been vegetarian--and carb-a-tarian for the last 15 years and I've been paying for it. Your threads here have given me much encouragement that this diet is do-able for veggies. Today is day 2 of pre-load, tomorrow the real challenge begins. I have eggs, cottage cheese and I'm hoping not to feel so desperate to resort to Quorn & Morningstar--but I'm reassured others have seen results taking that route. I recently took a good look at all the carbs that are in a few of the veggie burgers in my fridge--eek. Scared, but I think that's normal.

Quick update: following the Dr S vegetarian version to the T right now, and since I've lost 8 lbs in less than a week, I'm even more encouraged to keep going. I'm amazed and slack-jawed, really. I can eat eggs every lunch and cottage cheese every dinner as long as the payoff is this big!

No fish? Some vegans will sneak in a minnow or two? I'll bet you come up for some banging egg recipes for us.
I put my cottage cheese in a blender with my tomatoes and a little water and made myself a very nice cream of tomato soup.
and No I'm not Vegan but I have been in the past. Reverted back to carnivorism after about a year in college and a physical disaster. LOL.

Thanks for the tip on the cream 'o tomato soup. I'm getting to be quite the fritatta chef.
By committing to eat vegetarian, that means no animals, that means no fish. As some people have gotten sick by being veggie, I got well. It was just all those breads and bagels and cereal etc etc etc that was killing me, not the fruits and vegetables!
