Vacation, Dinner Guests & Eating Out

If we haven't already, those of us on the hCG diet will eventually experience a vacation, dinner guests, or a situation that requires eating out. Any one of these situations can create a dining nightmare for those of us determined to stay on plan, especially if we don't want to go into detail with other people. I'm on Round 1, day 4 of VLCD and have stayed home up to now but tonight, we have last minute unexpected guests arriving for the night and they want food! In addition, we have been invited out to a social dinner affair next weekend. I need some advice from you seasoned losers on how to handle these situations. I'm sure this information would be beneficial to many of us. Advice? Words of wisdom? Please, please, please, I need your help!

For dinner guests, just make something you can eat, too. You could make grilled fish or chicken with an allowed vegetable (maybe roasted asparagus), salad and some sort of starch for the guests. You just eat the portion of it that you can eat, and they can eat everything else. Serve strawberries with whipped cream for dessert and skip the whipped cream on yours.

I don't know how you'd eat at someone else's house without telling them you have special dietary requirements, but in a restaurant you can always order dry grilled fish or shrimp cocktail (no sauce) and lettuce with a squeeze of lemon.

I went to Red Lobster for my birthday.
I first asked them NOT to bring bread.
I then ordered snow crab legs, no butter.
Salad with no dressing, no croutons, and no cheese,
I forgot to order the vinegar on the side so I just ate the lettuce plain.

My hubs is doing this round with me.
    He got broiled fish
    and salad like mine.

If you are eating out, shellfish is the way to go. Shrimp cocktail. Lobster and crab legs are usually steamed with nothing added. Just skip the drawn butter and squeeze lemon in it instead. And split with your spouse, or get a to-go box, because its usually too much. You can get a dry salad or steamed veggies anywhere.

As for eating in, make grilled chicken or fish and grilled or steamed veggies. Cook everything together, but keep your portion separate without oil. You need to put olive oil on your guest's food to make it taste better than yours. Add a serving of baguette, mashed potatoes, rice or pasta on the side for everyone else. If you think they will be hungry, make them a richer appetizer (something with cheese or bacon) to enjoy while you are cooking the main dinner. Strawberries and chocolate sauce or whipped cream for dessert (you just have strawberries) I have done this at least 5 times, and only once has anyone even detected that I was eating less or something different. People focus on conversation and their own plates, not yours. If your food looks relatively the same, no one will notice.

I'm in P2. I was running errands recently and couldn't get home in time to eat. I stopped at Subway and ordered a plain spinach and lettuce salad with a grilled chicken breast on top. The lady told me that their chicken is cooked in no oils. I requested vinegar for salad dressing. I also ordered apple slices from the kids menu. It was a very good lunch, another quick option for when we are out and about.
