    constipation--what about benefber?

    It only has 3 cals per T and 3,76 carbs and almost all of that is fiber..... should NOT be a problem, right? Its been over a week since...

    If you are already constipated (and you are), fiber is the WORST thing you can take. It can compound the problem because you have to get the hardened stuff out of the way before the fiber can work. You are essentially adding a new plug behind the one that is already there. NOT what you want.

    Its better to use something that will draw water to your guts and soften things up so they can move through. What I've found works best for me is Magnesium. Most people are deficient in magnesium anyway, so it's a win-win. It is gentle, usually works overnight and does not cause cramping or next day urgencies. Any form of magnesium works, but many people like magnesium citrate. (such as in Natural Calm) I personally find that magnesium oxide is best for really tough cases, although you might want to switch to another form for long term use. I'd start with 400mg. If that doesn't work, increase each night until it works. If you have some vitamin C around you can take a big dose of that too (2-3000mg.) Back off whatever dose works if stools get too loose and take through the rest of P2.

    Constipation is a very common side effect of HCG, so if you can get on it early and supplement prophylactically, you can have a problem-free round.

    You are just a resoucre of information! Why didn't I ask you earlier? and I thought it was a dumb question and everyone would say..."what's the problem? just take it!" Ok--will do..I do have those things around...Thank you Leez!

    Not a dumb question at all. Almost everyone struggles with this issue in P2, and most people don't understand the role of fiber supplements.

    This just happens to be a topic that I've researched deeply, having dealt with the problem all my life. I'm so thankful that issue is now behind me (so to speak). I add a few other things to my regimen, but Magnesium is the core of it.

    I use Fleet Glycerin Suppositories (I think they are mentioned by Dr. Simeons) during my P2 rounds if its been more than 3 days since my last "movement". They work within 15-30 minutes with no cramping or pain. I do use disposable gloves to insert them - lol!

    Yes, good old suppositories and even enemas (which no one talks about anymore) are great for quicker relief. Thanks for adding that, sdwis.

    But if you can get (and keep) things softened up going forward, you'll be much more comfortable.

    The Magnesium was right on! I have been taking it since you mentioned it and the problem is gone...good thing to know as I often suffer from this issue.

    What about salt? The low carb gurus claim a reduced diet causes kidneys to secrete more sodium, so they recommend 1 -2 cups of bouillon per day - state this should avoid constipation.

    I read this after I finished P2 so didn't try it. I did use mineral oil - 2 tsp 2 evenings in a row to get BM.
