Thread: Is it necessary to add extra food when you exercise?

Is it necessary to add extra food when you exercise?

Hi there. I'm on R1/VLCD5 and will be going back to the gym to do a Pump class today, and will probably do a Step class tomorrow. Prior to starting this diet I was at the gym 5 days a week so the exercise is nothing new.

My questions is, do I really need to add extra food if I exercise? I'm scared of stuffing up the protocol and am not really very cluey when it comes to working out how many calories burnt etc. I don't want to lose any muscle/fitness, but neither do I want to mess up any fat losses.

    Thanks

Listen to yOur body. If you do a class then yes you need to add protein. If you can get through the exercise without it then don't. I will be interested in hearing how you do. I work out a couple hours a day and couldn't do it without the protein.

Thanks for the response Jenni. I dropped my weights right back in the class and didn't even raise a sweat but came out of the class starving. I went straight upstairs to the deli and bought 100g shaved chicken breast and scoffed it down and felt much better. Feel a little worried about not following protocol but I definitely needed something.

    Thanks again.

Hi! I have a question. How much protein should we add to our diets on work out days? I usually do a 60 min class.

    Thanks,

I'm not surprised. It took me a while to figure out to eat protein. Glad that worked for you.

First figure put if you need it. If you are feeling tired/exhausted after working out do what Shellie did. Or eat a hard-boiled egg, or a protein shake. This would be in addition to your regular protocol and only if you feel you need it. I'm a big fan of listening to your body

The hard boiled egg is a great idea, thanks Jenni, probably better than deli chicken everytime I work out.

Angela, I did 100g of chicken and happy to say I still had a loss this morning.

I'm doing a 60 minute Step class this morning so I'll see how I feel after that.

Okay, Thanks Gals! That's great news! Jenni I am also a fan of listening to my body and it can be hard, b/c sometimes I think my body is just feeling "empty" not really hungry, but yesterday I believe I was hungry. I did eat a little extra chicken only because of you gals! I was ecstatic to see a 3.5 lb. loss when I jumped on the scale this morning. I do have to say I am a little worried that when I stop injections I might gain. I just feel it's too good to be true. :/

That's a great loss Angela. I guess what you did worked. Interestingly, when I did cardio on Friday I wasn't hungry like I was after a Pump class. I guess it really is a matter of listening to our bodies and figuring it all out.

This is great info to hear because I to exercise 5x a week and wouldnt want that to change but I know that after working out I am hungry and looking for something to take my hunger pangs away. I usually do my very low carb, high protein and very low sugar shake..that can def hold me until my next meal. Cant wait to start this next week..waiting for my drops to arrive.
