Thread: Exercising During the Phase 2

  1. #1
Iwas in the gym last week for 40 mins in the trimmill walking probably 2.5 speed, the next very day gain 0.5oz and the next day after, another 0.5oz. Can I exercise when I am on this diet?

this is a debate we've had a lot- see this thread for some comments: http://hcgdietinfo.com/hcgvanillaforum/discussion/2743/1/just-curious-how-many-of-you-are-exercising/

i'm a PT and personally i don't think walking is a problem, at all. although if this is a lot more than you're used to, you might experience some temporary water retention. i think it's more likely normal weight variation, or an inconsistent scale.

Maybe you are building muscle, which weighs more than fat? I've been kayakng on the weekends and that seems to boost my weight loss.

After being in P2 for almost 2 weeks now and an avid exerciser, I suspect it is just normal weight fluxuation. I did a somewhat strenous bicycle ride over the weekend (65 miles) and wondered how it would affect the scale. It didn't make much difference than if I hadn't exercised at all, there was no extra big loss or anything. By the way, I didn't go cycling just to try to lose more weight but rather because it's my weekend enjoyment! So bottom line is don't worry too much, just follow the protocol and you will definitely see a loss ))

I had always walked even before beginning the protocol. I don't walk as fast as I did before starting but I still try to walk as often as I can and for a minimum of 30mins. It makes me feel more energized and I sleep better at night. As far as any difference on the scale, I really can't say because I don't get on the scale. I'm waiting until the end of my round so I can get an overall average weight loss. At first I avoided any type of exercise but I had misunderstood Dr. Simeon's instructions but after mgsondance posted what he had said about it (thank you for doing that, mgs!!), I immediately reincorporated it into my life. What doctor WOULDN'T want some type of physical activity?

I agree that working out in some capacity is always a good things, however, you have to take into account the demands the workout....whatever it is....has on your body. In that mere 30 minutes of walking, you are sweating a lot more than if you were not being active, so you have to ensure you drink a lot more (I know, I know...seems like we are drinking an elephant load of water as it is), however, when our bodies are not getting adequate hydration, they hold onto all the water present....affecting the weight loss. Accoridng to several health magazines.....drink a large glass of water BEFORE working out, then 8 ounces for every 20 minutes of working out. You can also weigh yourself before and after your workout....for every pound lost, drink 16 ounces of water.

    Hope this helps! )

Exercise causes stress to your body that results in elevated cortisol levels. Muscles will retain water. I couldn't exercise on Phase 2 since it would cause a stall everytime. We are not eating enough protein for the exercise.

it depends on the person and what kind of exercise. i definitely would not recommend heavy weight lifting or long strenuous cardio sessions, but something moderate is fine if you feel ok. i'd trust what your body is telling you.

I didn't work out during my first round of P2, but I am working out on this one and have had really good losses. I do about a mile on a threadmill and 3-5 miles on a stationary bike everyday. I also do 30 minutes of pilates twice a week to tone as much as possible. I've only had one stall this round, after that first 10 pounds like my first round. My losses have been so much better this time around also. I lost 23 pounds during my first round of 40 days and I'm nearly there now.
