Any other SCUBA divers doing hcg? Have you ever dived on VLCD? Share with us!

I am a PADI staff instructor and am very interested to see if any fellow divers are doing the HCG diet aswell. I was also curious if any of you have been diving whilst doing VLCD.

    Thanks

You may need some extra calories on dive days. I know my kids come up starving after a dive!

    Hey guys,

I know this is an old thread but I thought I'd write my experience with the hcg and being a scuba dive instructor. I have a very active lifestyle as a diver, plus I am also a belly dancer, so I get a ton of activity. I have done 3 pervious rounds before I became a dive instructor and lost 40lbs. Went from highest weight 220 to lowest weight 172 but stabled at 180. After my last round in p2 I started my job as a diver in p3. It was super hard to keep my weight stabilized at my lowest weight, I went from 172 to 180 but... I never gained any inches, so I'm wondering if this was just muscle weight I put on. I luckily stabilized at 180 for about 6 months, which I'm gonna say is awesome because I know how easy it is to put it all back on. During stabilization I stuck with a low carb diet and if I did have carbs it was only once in a while and made sure I worked extra hard to burn it off.
Now that it has slowed down a little for diving season, I decided to try my fourth round. I didn't want to do the diet while we were busy, I tried this once and was so hungry I couldn't even get past the first few days of p2. If you are a diver and going to do this diet I'd choose to do it during your slow season.
Ok for my load days I went a little overboard because I was on vacation, so load day was like 4 days long, which meant carbs and I put a ton on for my load. I went from 180 to 192! I know holy crap...but in my first couple days of p2 I lost 8lbs. Now I am on day 7 and at 179.6. I have found on days that I dive I need a little more protein and have a little bit more fruit. So far this is the first round that I have not stalled on day 5, so victory!
As the days go on I will write more because I found that there is not a lot of info on scuba divers doing this diet. If there are any others let me know I'd love to hear about your success!
Much love from Brittany the scuba instructor in the Cayman Islands

Thanks for weighing in, Brittany! Whatever you ate on your load is something you're likely sensitive to. Could be gluten or dairy. but that much of a gain during your load definitely indicates you were eating something that was likely the cause of your weight problem in the first place. Good luck on your round!

    Hey everyone,

Just checking in on hcg phase 2, scuba diver progress. So I am on day 28 with 13 more days to go. I started at 192 and I am down to 171. I found that in the beginning of the diet the extra activity from scuba diving helped with my weight loss but now in the last part of the diet I'm seeing that on days I do a lot of diving I retain water and stall for a few days. I used an Apple day to fix this stall but I think it would have corrected itself even if I hadn't. I have found that I feel a little weaker when picking up the tanks and weights but I am still able to do it, I'm sure this will go away once I go into p3. I also found that if I don't eat between dives I get very foggy headed and very angry, so make sure to make a lunch and bring it with you. Also drink lots of water, sometimes I'd be so busy on the boat I'd forget to drink water, this may have also been a reason for my stalls. I will check back in at the end of p2 with my final count and then see how I do on p3.

Thanks for the update! Apple days don't do much for you so you can forget them if you like.

So today is my first day of P3, hurrah! My final weigh in was 162 which means I lost 30lbs in 40 days, which was a .75lb loss per day. I am very happy with this result, I did have one day last week where I felt dizzy and Grammy said to back off on the drops and it worked. Not sure why this happened at the very end but this is the first time I have done a 40 day round, all the other times I did 25. Now comes the hard part of keeping it off. The last time I did P3 I gained 8lbs in the first couple weeks but my inches never changed, which makes me think it was muscle. During that week we got super busy and I was diving 2-4 times day and lifting very heavy tanks. This week we are still a little slow so I'm hoping I can slowly transition into the exercise.
So far I have eaten today:
Breakfast: (omelet) 2 eggs, 2 tablespoon cheddar, 1 tablespoons onion, 3 tablespoons turkey, 2 slices of bacon
    Planned not eaten yet:
Lunch: (salad)2 cups lettuce, 1/2 tomato, 1 tablespoon onion, 2 tablespoons cheddar, 1/4 cup chopped turkey, 2 tablespoons low carb ranch dressing
Dinner: baked chicken breast with 2 teaspoons parmesan top, steamed
broccoli, and maybe a small salad as a snack later on.

So let's hope I do well this p3, my next planned p2 round will be in August-September. Good luck everyone.

So small update and also want to see if Grammy can help. I've pretty much stabilized around 164-165. Well yesterday I had a big day of diving, I was so busy I pretty much didn't get out of the water and did three 40min dives. I worked 7:30am till 3:30, I didn't have time to eat anything during that time and I only had 3 cups of water. When I got home I knew I was dehydrated because I was getting headaches and started drinking water the rest of the night, I didn't urinate util 8pm. I did get something to eat and through the night, I ate 3 turkey cheese roll ups, 5 grilled chicken strips with onions, and a hot dog with bean free chili. I weighed myself this morning and I'm up to 169lbs. I then checked my inches and they are all the same. Is this due to me being dehydrated and my body retaining water or should I do a correction day?

yes this is dehydration. your body didn't like it all. Just get plenty of protein and water in you for the next few days. I'm hesitant to tell you to do a steak day after such a grueling day because it may just stress your body out even more.
