    How much (what type of protein) should I have when I work out

    I've worked out my whole life. I am going into my second round of HCG. I'm hoping to lose 66 pounds in six months because I am trying to get into the Army Officer Corps.

    How much protein do I need to add to the 500-700 protocol to work out. I go to the gym 4 times a week, I usually do 40 minutes of cardio and 15-20 minutes of weight lifting / calisthenics. I am regaining my PFT stats (at least two of three, push ups are still tough due to wrist weakness from a previous injury) and am expecting to do 300 PFT when I have to PFT on February 15, 2012.

    What I am worried about is I've heard that if you do not add some protein when you exercise you will stall because your body goes into starvation mode, which would defeat the purpose of this diet.

    1. Is that true?

    2. If it is, how much protein should I be taking and does anyone have recommendations (I've never used supplements)

    3. If it is not true, will it speed up the weight loss.


    My exercise pattern burns between 750 and 800 calories at a clip. The HCG diet second round is just to jump-start the weight loss that stalled over the summer. I'm hoping I don't need to do another round just after Christmas but this is my family's future here so if I have to do this, I will.

    I can tell you what I am doing. Before my workout, I have one of my daily fruits with a small protein shake. After workout, I have a larger protein shake. I use sugar free whey protein and sugar free hemp protein. Also, I may increase my meat consumption on those days.

    Anyone else? There really doesn't seem to be a protocol in Dr. Simeon's book. I don't want to quit working out on this diet but I don't want to foul it up either. I am concerned if I stop I'll hit target weight and my PFTs will be awful.

    Me too please! I am on R1P2D2 and workout lots. I usually do kickboxing 3X week and workout with a trainer among other things. I don't want to give this up. Should I jut have an extra protein shake these days?

    I do Zumba 3 times a week. I love doing it so I didn't want to give it up even though it's high intensity. I usually eat a hard-boiled egg white with one of my daily fruits after my workout. At first I wasn't eating anything extra because I wasn't really hungry for anything extra, but I started doing the egg white because of the reasons you posted. I might even go to 2 egg whites. I don't know if this is necessarily right, but it's what I'm doing.

    I guess we will see how it goes. I will start with protein shakes and go from there. Too bad I can't have banana!

    Well it is the end of week one of exercise and HCG for me. I continued with my 4 day on, 1 day off pattern (M, T, Th, F) at the gym. Depending on how I feel I'll go down there tomorrow and do some cardio, but if I feel like crap I'll pass.

    What I have done is made sure I had my apple before I went to the gym and then instead of the traditional protein and veggie meal at lunch I've been doing a Visalus shake. I know that isn't in protocol, but it seems to be working for me and that is the point anyway, right?

    So far through 5 days I'm down 9.9 pounds. Now I read somewhere that weight gained after a round of HCG is completed will come off faster, and I still am up about five pounds from when my last cycle ended, but considering how miserable this summer went, I'll take it. Heck, if I can keep this clip (unlikely) through the whole cycle, I'll be through in another 34 days or so.

    What I've noticed at the gym is that I used to be able to do an 80-90 minute routine, but when I get close to minute 60 my brain starts telling me enough. I can usually push through this because I'm watching a Netflix on my phone while doing the eliptical but I haven't been able to do that this week. I guess 60 is my ceiling.

    I'll keep you guys in the loop. Oh and I kind of feel lousy today, so I may have overdone it.

    I am starting kickboxing tomorrow. I am a little concerned as I have been feeling a little weak and lightheaded these past couple of days. My plan is to have a large protein shake immediately after before lunch and then have my usual lunch. Hopefully it works out and I can get rid of this shakiness feeling!

    I am a newbie to HCG, R1P2D1. I have always been active and was concerned about my regular exercise and eating such a low calorie. Today, I did my 1 hour spin class and so far I'm not feeling any ill effects. Of course, this is my first VLCD so I haven't started to lose weight yet. Allentown, can you give an update on how your exercise and the protein drink plus your weight loss is coming. I noticed that you have posted a follow-up since September 11th. I am curious because I dont' want to start myself off on the wrong foot when it comes to wieght loss because of too much exercise. I would love to include my EAS Advantage protein drink if I can. Thanks.

    I am training for a half marathon, I 'm eating and apple before my run and shakeology after, so far is working for me, I want to start P90x, but afraid to stall for doing too much
