Beverage Questions-Any help is so appreciated!

Any help would be appreciated! I have done this diet before years ago, and it worked extremely well for me, however I didnít keep up with and have since gained back about 1/2 of what I lost, maybe more. So Iím back at it but this time have some additional questions/possible modifications I am hoping to be able to take advantage of, and I wanted to see what you, the experts, have to say!

    1. Previously I followed Dr. Simeons VLCD - 500 calories a day, I am a very picky eater so I did pretty much the same exact food every day. Chicken breast and cucumber for lunch and then either beef or chicken with cucumber for dinner, exciting I know. I noticed this time around when I was refreshing myself on what was allowed that there was another option out there, Dr. Lipmanís 800 calories per day seems to offer a lot more food options I personally would eat, more specifically the thing that caught my eye immediately was the protein shakes, muscle milk and premier protein shakes are something I incorporate in my daily life now as I use them in my coffee as an alternative to milk or creamer. I prefer to do Dr. Simeonís plan because I know it works for me, however I was hoping it would be possible to use one of those protein shakes mentioned in Dr. Lipmans plan as an alternative to the 1 tablespoon of milk allowed? Has anyone mixed the 2 plans and still seen results?

    2. The other question I have is regarding hydration. I am chronically dehydrated. I could drink a gallon of water a day and it wouldnít help much. My primary doctor told me to drink Gatorade Zero for the electrolytes and it has helped tremendously. I know you arenít supposed to drink sports drinks on the HCG diet, that being said I googled it and saw some people saying they did anyway and still saw results. Has anyone here had experience with this? Or does anyone have any better suggestions to get electrolytes/hydration on this diet?

Thank you in advance to anyone who takes the time to respond and help me in any way. I wish you all the best and hope everyone is staying safe and healthy during this crazy pandemic we are living through.

Edit: I have been able to find information on electrolyte packets off Amazon, wanted to mention this as I didnít want to waste anyoneís time answering this if I already had the answer! So now my only question is are the dairy free protein shakes an ok option as an alternative to the 1 tablespoon of milk allowance? Thanks again!

On the hydration issue, add some pink or sea salt to each glass of water. It increases the hydration. Add a potassium and magnesium supplement as well to help keep a balance. The magnesium will also facilitate your elimination. Constipation is a common side effect of the HCG diet, so it helps to be proactive about that.

On protein shakes: we have had vegetarians experience success using the Jay Robb whey or egg white protein shakes as the protein portion of one or both of their meals. Something that is comparable in ingredients should work as well. Your question is about adding a third protein portion to the original menu, and that would be something that you would need to experiment with as it would be off protocol.

However, I have successfully added a cup of bone broth in addition to the P2 proteins allowed in one of my rounds, and had good results. So it might work for you. No one is going to be able to give you a definitive answer, because with annecdotal reports, you have no idea if what worked for one other person would transfer to your situation.

I once tried Jay Robb Whey protein shake during P2 and it made me throw up immediately. I don't know what the issue was, since I actually like to drink the shakes in P4, and have no issues.

Just to add, one of our long term members is a vegan and uses the Sunwarrior protein during P2. She reported that her losses were slower than the normal protocol if I remember correctly.
