new .. seriously considering the diet but have concerns

I have had 3 children and I am about 50lbs overweight. I am having a horrible time losing the weight. My concern is the muscle loss. My friends have told me that you lose a ton of mucle through this diet. I have heared people say that they feel really loose and saggy everywhere after.. Has anyone experieced anything like this? Thank you!

I have lost 55 pounds so far on this amazing protocol. I am 57 and play tennis 3 times a week as well as running my busy store 6 days a week. I do have some loose baggy skin especially in my inner thighs, upper arms and abdomen but I am stabilizing in Phase 3 and waiting for my skin to tighten and adjust. Having been grossly overweight my whole life, it is no wonder my skin is a bit unforgiving. I have not lost any (or very little) muscle and have truly lost fat in all the places that need to lose. My face has not gotten that haggard look and I feel wonderful and full of energy. I am working on improving my muscle tone with exercise and look forward to my next losing round. Make sure you read Pounds & Inches. The answers are all there and this forum is also a God-send! Welcome to your new life!

HI cozy...I need about 40 lbs to lose...I was recommended this diet by my family dr because I had back surgery 3mths ago and have been unable to exercise.
He said that he liked it because it targeted abnormal fat...areas of stored fat for no use...
He said that it will not eat up muscle or any "structural fat" ie. the fat for your knee pads etc...
many have said that once they have very little fat to lose...the diet slows right down to minimal weight loss..so I think you would be fine...as far as the saggy skin..well according to Pounds and Inches (what i recommend you read) your skin will be fine...but maybe some senior members can comment...or I will in about 40 days

You only lose muscle if you are not stretching and keeping your body limber, you do not need to do high intensity exercise on the low calorie or P2 part but some low impact toning and some minor cardio like walking and rebounding are recomended. Its also recomended to step up the exercise slightly in phases 3 and 4.
You aren't losing muscle mass on the diet so much as you are losing the fat and toxins that have been stored in the muscles making them appear smaller. As for sagging skin, that depends on toning exercises and haven given birth, your age I believe is a factor also because that determins how elastic your skin is. But sagging skin or not, you will still be a healthier person without all the toxins in your body. Good luck to you on your weight loss, whatever you decide.

You won't lose muscle mass as long as your dose it correct. I've had body scans both before and after my first two rounds and I can tell you that my muscle mass has changed very little!

i'm one who believes that you do lose muscle- perhaps a little less than with a regular vlcd, but it still happens. one guy on here got expensive scans (an accurate one, the bod pod) before and after, and 1/2 of what he had lost was muscle. but there are obviously differences from person to person as well.

if your dose is correct i don't believe you lose normal fat- i've not noticed any gaunt faces in the group of people i've coached.

i do recommend that you do light exercise in P2- at least walking, to help maintain muscle tone as much as possible.
