New and struggling with discipline and confidence

Hello all! I'm brand new to hCG! (technically I started and stopped after a week a few years ago because I had no idea what I was doing and I was pretty sure that my hCG was not good at all, but that's neither here nor there ) I started with a doctor and loaded over the weekend, so first day of P2 was 1/12/14, Monday. I have a friend who lost 30 with this doctor on a 40 day cycle, kept it off for 3 years and has even lost another 10 just from a more active lifestyle. She told me about this forum group so I thought I'd try to maybe get a little support

I want to say I am absolutely not hungry until just before meals and overall I feel okay, but I am still really craving carbs. God I love carbs, haha. I am generally a pescetarian (though mainly a vegetarian) but agreed to chicken with my doctor for more variety and because it's easier to pack for work, but the bulk of my calories in the last 15 years has been dairy and carb based. I do fantastically throughout the day and am able to eat a perfect lunch (100 g. grilled chicken and 1 cup cucumber slices or celery) with an apple as a snack. I am a teacher, so lunch is early, and I eat the apple during 6th period (when my kids start to get to me )

The main issue I am facing though, is that "after school" time from like 3-5 when all I want to do is eat carbs. This is my 4th day on protocol and I have yet to get through that period of time without eating too many melbas or even saltines. I am pretty embarrassed that I can't just say no to it. I do a good job with dinner again (100 g. halibut or shrimp with asparagus or lettuce) and a few strawberries after. I have been drinking a lot of tea and water, but I just can't seem to not mess up during my "after school" block from carb-loving hell.

Any suggestions or ideas on how to deal with my killer time? So far I have still been losing, but today it was only .2 lbs and I KNOW its because I can't let go of the carbs.

Should I try dropping them all together to make up for the last few days? Is there a magic drink I can make that will help? Any tricks of the trade? I really want to just feel good and believe in myself, but 3 days in a row of caving to the carb addiction is really bumming me out. In general, I am a confident person and excel in most things I set my mind to--everything but my body. Even taking this head on with such an expensive and strict plan was a huge step for me.

I started at 177.6 and after loading was 183.2 (my biggest ever!)
I lost 5.2 after my first day of P2, .8 after the second and am down another .2 after yesterday, meaning I'm only 1 lb down from my true starting weight. That's actually another question I have, when I talk about my weight loss, is it from where I started or where I started after the loading days? (Just trying to know how the cool kids do it here.)

Thanks in advance! I don't ever show the people around me my insecurities, so I really only have these forums as an outlet.

I would not eat the melba at all. Many don't because gluten is often the underlying culprit to weight problems anyway. And many many report the same problem you have of portion control on them. I think it would be best to just eliminate them. Save your 2nd apple for the evening and maybe bake it with cinnamon to make it seem like a real treat. You figure your weight loss from the morning of the first day of the diet. Next time don't load with so many carbs so you don't have so much to lose. Good luck!

I've not had carb-craving problem while on P2, but DH did. What worked for him was to take 1/4 to a 1/2 teaspoon of glutamine (aka L-Glutamine--its an amino acid-less than 5 calories per teaspoon) sublingually. The cravings go away in about 10 minutes. You can give this a try if you find you still battle the cravings after stopping the melba.

Sometimes a cup of hot spiced tea works too. I think though, that the way it works is that it distracts you for a while. ^_^

I struggle with that time period as well. It is the hardest part of my day. What helps me is I save my fruit for that time and then enjoy it with a cup of tea. My favorite tea is the gingerbread tea from Celestial something or other. I add a bit of stevia to it and it tastes like a liquid cookie, but only has spices in it and no sugar. That helps me a ton. today was my first phase 2 day, but I have used that trick in the past with other diets. I found when I totally cut the carbs, my cravings for them (and other junk) stopped after about a week, give or take. It was remarkable. Fruit began to taste like candy and veggies tasted sweet. Just stay strong, you can do it!

Thank you so much for the replies!!!

I have definitely cut out all extra carbs now (thanks grammy!) and I ordered L-Glutamine Leez (thank you!) and a liquid cookie with an apple sounds perfect Ashley! I ordered some liquid stevia and one was a vanilla flavor, do you think that's on protocol/acceptable? I tried the baked apple last night and it was AMAZING! This should help a lot! I have also decided to try going for a walk or even browsing the grocery store/target during that period of time with nothing but my apple and tea to see if that helps.

Thanks you guys! Feeling much better about this whole process

I'm so happy to hear that you are feeling a bit better.

As far as my favorite teas go, check out the following on Amazon:
Celestial seasonings sugar cookie sleigh ride
    Celestial seasonings gingerbread spice

Those teas only come out on the holidays and are tough to find in stores. I enjoy ordering them on amazon. If you add stevia, it tastes like a dream come true! It totally curbs my sweet tooth And yes, the flavored stevias are on protocol, so that's good news for you!
