Shocked and Suprised at my Psych Dr's response to me doing hcg

I take several meds for bipolar as well as anxiety, and recently had to have them all adjusted because they stopped working. I was not on hcg at the time, figured Id get that straightend out before doing another round..Finally felt like I was on an even keel, so I started my loading last Sat.
At my appt with the Dr yesterday, I mentioned that I am back on the hcg protocol for what would be my last round. His response was really odd to say the least. He told me nothing good comes from using hcg, and it could cause me to go into crisis. Having done a round before, I knew that wasnt true, but he went as far as calling the nurse into the office, directing her to call my primary physician, and let him know "what is going on here" I signed a release, so he can do that, but I left there feeling like I did something wrong.
Now Im really not sure what to doThis plan works, I know that from experience, and I want to continue, but he scheduled me to see him in a month, at which point if he sees a big loss, he may refuse to continue to treat me for not following his recommendation to stop using hcg. I absolutely need my meds, and its a small town, so very difficult to find another dr that takes my insurance if he drops me.
Funny part of this is, hes supposed to help me with my anxiety, and his response has had me anxious ever since!
Im going to call my primary myself today, and see if I can get him onboard, but any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

You might google keto and bipolar, Brin. There's a lot of stuff out there that shows bipolar is helped a lot by a keto diet. And luckily you lose weight easily on a keto diet. The only thing you'll have to watch is your thyroid since keto can depress it so just keep in enough carbs to protect against that. Good luck!

Can your primary continue to write you scripts for your bipolar meds? I understand him being concerned, but he can't control your actions. You have the right to make your own decisions. Strange reaction!

    Round 1, hhcg, went from 193.8 to 171.8 = 22 lbs lost!

Starting Round 3 with a whole lot more to lose...

    Stay tuned for 9/15 losses!

I'm sorry to hear that was his reaction and that is causing you more anxiety. I do think you are wise to contact your other doctor and be proactive about this. I know absolutely nothing about how small doses of hcg interact with your other drugs...did your doctor have some specific concern about drug interactions or is he just anti-hcg? If he knows of specific ways in which hcg reacts with your medications, I think he should have cautioned you, but threatening to stop prescribing your meds is just controlling, unprofessional and downright dangerous, I would think. I hope your primary care doctor is able to keep treating you.

...perhaps sharing with your doctor how his reaction made you feel is in order here. He is is not your parent and the reaction you describe is over the top and a bit too personal for doctor-patient relationship. As a mental health patient, you are vulnerable and a reaction like that is not helpful. Maybe he is not aware of the unprofessional communication that transpired between you two. Hopefully you can talk to him about your feelings (I suspect that you already do this with sessions...just add in this piece). Best wishes to you.

Thanks all for your input...spoke to my primary dr, and he agreed with the psych dr,,the impression i get from both of them is that they know nothing abt this protocol, considering their issue with it is me "messing" with my hormones. funny part is, i am in a GREAT mood whenever im doing a round, so im going to continue to do what i know is right for me, and unfortunately be less candid with what i share with them.
BTW today is the beginning of day 5 on vlcd, and i have lost 4.8lbs

If you find you do much better on hcg, you might be one of the people whose bipolar is related to low thyroid. Do a google search bipolar thyroid and read the research. You may find you do really well if you get on thyroid meds. Also read www.StopTheThyroidMadness.com. Good luck!

I bet you they didn't check your free T3 and free T4. Your levels should be in the upper quartile of the range. With a goiter, it's a given that you have a thyroid problem.

I thought they did because i also saw the specialist to go over the results, but its been well over a year, so it wouldnt hurt for me to have it all done again. I was suspicious as well as to how there could be something in there, and NOT cause a problem,,worth taking another look

And I'd bet your Reverse T3 is high, too. Doctors are strange...how can they think you have no thyroid problem if you have a goiter. I've read that some psychiatrists are actually learning to test, diagnose and treat thyroid in a much better way than endocrinologists because they see so many patients whose psychiatric issues are caused by thyroid disease.

Also, my endocrinologist gave me the impression that there was no way to tell from an ultrasound if thyroid growths were cancerous or not. She said a biopsy was required. How did your doctor determine yours' wasn't cancerous just from an ultrasound?
