What do you do when you have a failed Steak Day?

I am trying to research quickly the forum on what happened to others when they had a Steak Day that didn't work, but I am at work and I am starving and I need to eat. So I figured to try to do a clean day today and have lots of protein.

I am in phase 4 now and I had no issues with adding starch back in. I tried out a bowl of pasta and that went well. I even had some Cheetos that I have been craving for months and it didn't really affect that much (my weight increased by .6 pounds, but still within the 2 pound range). However, this past Sunday was the Italian Experience day with my family and I decided to give sugar a shot. I had two zeppolis and one cannoli. I checked with nutritional facts and it didn't seem to be that bad. But my body disagrees The next day I was over my 2 pound range and I decided to do the Steak Day. This morning I woke up to a decrease in weight by only .4 pounds and I am still out of the 2 pound range. I wasn't sure if I should do another Steak Day cause I heard if you do too much it could affect your metabolism. So that is why I decided to do just a clean day with high amounts of protein.

    I wanted to ask:
1.) What would make a Steak Day fail? Did I do something wrong? I had about 8 ounces of steak around 4 pm and then a green apple.
2.) What should I do now? I am trying to eat very clean today with lots of protein and water. But tomorrow if I am still over the 2 pound range-- should I do another Steak Day tomorrow?

Thank you so much for your guidance.

Usually when a steak day fails it's because your body has built up inflammation from something. It could be the wheat and it just takes a while for it to hit. Just stay the course and stay away from the bad stuff and it should fall back down.

I have never done well on steak days. My body goes into instant defense mode when I let myself go hungry. I do better with a high protein day, which allows me to eat throughout the day. In fact, even doing a 2-meal steak day, dividing up the food over the course of the day has worked better for me.

Just for the record, no part of this journey is for the weak.

Sometimes the drop from a correction day doesn't happen until day 2, or your body naturally goes down the second day like it would anyways. Either way you might be back to LIW range tomorrow. Just eat clean today. I agree a high protein day does better than fasting and binging on steak for a lot of people. Protein is a natural diuretic so next time try doing it for a day or two and see if it helps more. You'll just need to find what method works best for you.

It's too soon for another steak day anyways. Also you don't want to get into a cycle of gains and steak day corrections like many fall into. Let your body do the work and flush out the fluid.

I don't advise high protein days anymore. I've seen too many get into a bad spiral of eating only high protein because they are trying to get that weight back down. Then before you know it, their thyroid is tanking and the weight goes up and they can't stop it. So for that reason, I only ever recommend a protocol steak day, then go back to clean eating without starch and sugar but including some normal carbs like fruit.

    But it's your call.

Thank you so much for answering my questions. I know those Chester Cheetos are not the healthest thing in the world and I wouldn't put it pass that it could possibly be that processed/packaged lovely chemical concotion of a snack that affected my system, but I would never have thought that it would be a while to do so. Thank you for your guidance!

By the way, thank you about the high protein days too. I notice myself falling into that trap as well-- constant with the protein. But I remember seeing your posts everywhere about warning many of us about the thyroid and of course we should eat veggies and fruit to get those healthy carbs in. Thank you again. I am trying to incorporate both like having for dinner steak and veggies.

Thank you Carolina for your tips.

poobears-- I was worried about the same thing-- falling into the cycle of gaining and then correcting. I like what you said about letting your body do the work and the flushing. I will definitely wait a bit and let it ride out this inflammation and such.

Steak days never worked for me. Neither did high protein. I did yogurt day corrections (FFF) after a number of unsuccessful steak days and they worked like a charm for me.

Strange how different things work for people. I have to definitely say that this morning, I was down 2 pounds into my stable zone. Thanks guys!! I am glad to know that my body did stabilized and not to worry if I gain weight after eating some starches and sugar because that weight is just from water or an inflammation. Thank you for your guidance

I am having this exact problem right now. I realize that you posted months ago and wonder what you decided to do to resolve this problem. Did you do another steak day? I don't know if I should repeat a steak day today. I'm 3 lb above LIW and yesterday's steak day did not work. This has never happened. Can you help with any words of wisdom? BTW. How often are we allowed to do a steak day, per Simeon's protocol.
I too am very worried about my carb intolerance. It seems to be getting worse and I already take thyroid supplement but my t-4 never comes up to normal. I'm wondering if I could just get t-4???

According to protocol you need 4 days between steak days. What made you go above your LIW and how much did you gain? Did you eat out for a day or have a meal out and jump up?

A yogurt day people usually eat fat free fage yogurt all day and nothing else. No way could I do it but if you really like yogurt you might like it. I just go back to clean eating and let the weight come down on it's own. As long as you don't continue to eat what made you gain you will drop back down. Also sometimes it takes 2 days for the correction day to show up so you might see a drop tomorrow.

The protocol actually doesn't address the frequency with which the "skipping a meal" strategy may or may not be implemented.
