Thread: Ketosis in Phase 3

    Ketosis in Phase 3

Should we be in ketosis for all of phase 3? I read somewhere that we were transitioning out, but I'm still in.

You don't need to be in ketosis for either phase 2 or phase 3.

    Try eating some fruits.

Ketosis isn't part of the hcg diet so it doesn't matter.

I miss fruit. I've been doing 2.0 for two weeks and ready to switch to OP. It's what I know how to do. I'm starting to get sick of eating so much protein. Anyway...your post made me long for an apple or a handful of strawberries.

To me, being able to have 2 fruits a day makes P2 joyful for me. The couple of times I experimented with cutting it back I found I felt really deprived those days. I don't think I'd try 2.0 for that reason alone.

My personal opinion is that even if you lose a bit more at the first part of P2 with HCG 2.0, it won't increase your overall loss in the long run, because I don't think you can make the HCG work any better than it does. You can however, via ketosis, make your body lose a bigger water percentage that might make it seem that way. But water is not fat and will level out again when you get out of ketosis, so what is the point? When water stores normalize again, you have a scale jump that can discourage you in P3, because water and fat look the same on your scale.

Leez - do you think it's harder to stabilize in P3 with doing 2.0? I have read posts that go either way. I trust your opinion. Just curious.

I really don't know. Its probably individual (like so many things).

But I think you have a greater chance of the scale being volatile in P3 because the water level adjustment is going to be greater if you've been in ketosis for a while. And if that causes you to do extra steak days, that in itself is not good for stabilization.

This is my opinion based on my understanding of what happens to the body during ketosis. On the original protocol, two fruits a day is enough to keep most people out of ketosis. The P3 instructions to keep a two pound window probably shouldn't be applied to a P3 that follows a ketogenic P2. Maybe a bigger swing should be allowed, at least for the first week if you are not staying in ketosis for P3.

Thanks, Leez. Makes sense to me. I'm comparing the way I'm feeling on OP to 2.0 and even though calories/portions are smaller with OP, I feel better. During this 2.0 round, I feel bloated and carb starved. I really miss my fruit. I've made the decision to switch back to OP tomorrow being 9 days into P2. Gotta do what's right for me! Thanks again for your feedback.

    You're welcome.

It sounds like your body is telling you that it is in distress. I agree with your decision that its time to change tactics.

I've been thinking about the different variations on P2 that have become popular, and it has struck me that they are all about changing P2, but they don't take into account that messing with the P2 formula might affect other parts of the protocol. (like optimum dose or P3 length for instance.) Everything is anecdotal since the protocol research, because there are no further studies. Just something to think about.

I am thinking of changing back also. Kind of did today except i had cucumber with my romaine for dinner, and had a half of protien drink because I needed to get in more protien and did not have 500 calories. I feel bloated too and just feel like I am eating a lot of food. I miss the green apple I used to eat every day, but oh, do I love the protein shakes in 2.0. This is such a journey of learning.

I did OP in the two rounds I did last year and stabilized well following THM until December when my thyroid medication was switched (in November) and I had more wine and little cheats than my body could handle. I really like the THM lifestyle and plan on returning to it so will not be staying in Ketosis.

I always ate two fruits per day for all phases including now. Only thing i did different was follow my clinics plan which varied from original protocol in that it allowed broccoli and cauliflower as well as water packed white tuna..albacore as well as turkey. I also did mix my veggies to fill out my 500cal

    Ketosis in Phase 3

Sounds like the plan you had worked well, Rose. And Lu, Iím glad Iím not alone in not really jiving with 2.0. I know OP the best and i know i feel good to do a longer round if i feel like it and be able to maintain (if i donít go crazy in carbs and sugar) in P3. Trying out 2.0 was a learning experience and glad i tried it because i know ketosis is not for me. Just gotta do whatís right at the end of the day! Ketosis in Phase 3
