Trying to make sense of this diet as a whole, and what it means for the future

I read P&I, but I'm starting to look ahead to future rounds (I'm in the middle of P2) and I just don't get some of it.

P3 says no starches or sugars. This sounds very similar to the first phase of atkins, other than allowing fruit. Even then, I have read that fruit should be limited during P3 because of the sugars. When I was on Atkins/low carb, I lost weight. During P3, we're supposed to stay +- 2 pounds of our ending P2 weight, but I wonder how that's possible if we're eating low carb. It almost makes me feel like my metabolism will be more messed up because a diet that would normally cause me to lose weight will now cause me to remain stable.

My next question is that I'm struggling on the diet right now because of side effects. I'm going to try adjusting my dose and that might take care of things. But if it doesn't, I have a lot more weight I need to lose, but I would probably switch to a different diet. That diet would have been Atkins, but now I don't know how I could make the transition without staying the same or even gaining weight.

My last question is, since it seems like weight loss is fastest during the first 23 days on diet, despite the loading, is it better to do shorter rounds because then they could be done more often?

Any input? I'm feeling super confused about all this and want to continue steady weight loss, even if I move on from HCG.

What are your side effects?. The diet is very strict. You would think that it would mess you up but it just gives you a base line to start with. Then when you add stuff back you see what your body is sensitive to. I cant eat mozzarella cheese alot it makes me gain weight. Once you are done with the 3 weeks p3 that is when you slowly add grains and sugars back into the diet. " ITS NOT A DIET IT A LIFESTYLE CHANGE". You will not be able to go back to what you where eating. However you might be able to eat 1 piece of pizza instead of 4. Like me. LOL. I did weight watchers for 2 years. Had great success until i moved and started cooking at home. Not that I was cooking bad but because of portion size. I personally think this is one of the best diets i have found. Yes there are sacrifices and concessions but in the end it is worth it. I did r rounds of 45 days. I have lost 34 pounds. I was going for 135 but i am now looking for 140. I think the longer rounds are better for me because of my attention span . but some perople dont mind the stabilization. I just wanted oi get it over with.

LDW 142.3 goal was 140 but im good with 142

Wine I first read P&I I felt like you but since the I go back and re-read I am beginning to understand it. I think it makes sense because each of us have different biological and psychological reasons for weight gas in the first place. How you will do depends on your body. So adding back things that you love while watching for a weight gain will allow you to better understand your body's limitations. It is a process to understand your body with a scientific approach that allows for some variance to account for individual differences.

I can't answer your question about transitioning to another diet. I too suffer from side effects and on,y within the last three days. I finally decided to play with food combinations and I think my side effects are from detoxing. I have had some inflammation and digestive issues in the past and despite doing well on my doctors protocol to overcome them I beblieve my body retained toxins in my stored fat that is now being burned.

I am not sure if that is your problem but I think this plan is worth trying in its purest form. Ony then will you know how your body reacts....good luck

I do understand that this leads to a lifestyle and is not just a diet (p2, to me is a diet. P3 and P4 are more of a lifestyle). But where I'm confused is if I had a high fat/high protein/low carb diet before trying the HCG diet, I would lose weight, and have in the past. I do the SAME thing on P3, and I'm supposed to stabilize. I understand the importance of stabilizing, but I don't understand why eating in a way that would have caused weight loss before the diet will now mostly make me maintain, if not gain (more than the 2 pounds). This is what is hanging me up the most and is starting to make me think I've made a mistake.

As for side-effects, they are getting better. I've had a 2 week long headache that has almost made me quit. I felt extreme weakness for a while, but grammy helped me with my dose and that's better, though I'm still weak. I've also had a lot of muscle aches that last 5+ days before getting completely better. I've also been more prone to crying, but it's hard to say if that's the HCG or because of all the side-effects I've been having. With a lighter dose, things are better, but not perfect. For example, I live on the 3rd floor and am quite used to climbing all the stairs up here with no problems. Now, I sometimes have to take a break and my husband has to carry all the groceries because it's become so hard.

The difference between P3 and Atkins style low carb diets is essentially that you are eating less carbs, but not extremely less carbs, if that makes sense? And again it's not that you eat SO few carbs, it's just the type of carbs you do eat are different, mostly from non starchy Vegetables and Fruits. So in P3 you should never really be in Ketosis like you would in a traditional low carb / Atkins style 'diet' Just the 1 piece of fruit is likely to provide more carbs than a Atkins style diet would permit for an entire day...so I don't know if that fully explains the difference for you or not...but I hope to helps some at least.

Thanks for the info Rev. It makes a lot more sense now. They still seem so similar, but maybe the fruit alone is enough to prevent ketosis and weight loss.

Are you taking magnesium and potassium, and making sure to eat adequate amounts of salt? For me, weakness and dizziness are a result of low or unbalanced electrolytes. I find supplementing potassium, especially, to be critical during P2. I took 3-5 potassium tablets spread throughout the day, every day during P2. I couldn't function without it.

I've been taking a single pill of each of those. Maybe I'll try to take the potassium 3 times a day, following my hcg. I'll see if that help.. thanks for the tip!

You said everything I was thinking when I finished reading the OP. Very well said! P3 is called stabilization because you literally are working to stabilize your body (which is why it's +-2lbs- the goal is to introduce foods back, but at the same time keep your weight stabilized and consistant at the same weight. In my opinion, this is the most critical time of hcg. Granted everything is critical- however anyone can do P2 and lose weight- the real kicker is sticking out P3 and stabilizing that weight for LONG TERM / LIFETIME success.
