Thread: Anyone else back after being successful losing weight but then gaining it all back?

  1. #25
Hi! I'm back again after doing really well in 2012-2013. I struggled staying at my lowest weight and had to readjust, but ended up finding a great weight window and was really happy with my body. I had a baby between then and now, and although I gained very little during the pregnancy, I ended up gaining after I finished breastfeeding, as I tend to do.

So, I'm back to drop about 15 lbs! Just finished loading and I'm on drop day 3, vlcd day 1. So excited to get on with it, but already anxious about p3. P3 is always the hardest part of the diet for me and I'm dreading the emotional roller coaster already.

My husband has put all his weight back on, so he's doing it with me and wil probably have to do another round after this one. Hope he's committed to keeping it off this time! Love doing this as a team

I'm starting my loading days tomorrow for Round 4 and am nervous as h€ll. I've just mixed up my HCG (5000 IUs HCG with 10 ml bac water), and am ready to start.

I had a successful first round last year, during which I lost 30 lbs. I stabilized about 2-3 pounds above LIW. My second round was a disaster because my doctor wouldn't change my dosage, and I struggled with hunger. I switched clinics and the new clinic gave me a lower dosage (125 IUs), but I think it might have been too low. We went to 150 IUs and that seemed to be too high. I'd lost about 15 pounds but had to stop the round because of the dosage and hunger problems. I did a third round at 140 IUs, but right after I started, I was unexpectedly laid off from my job and because of all the stress, I lost my momentum and motivation and ate more than and things I shouldn't have. I only lost about 8 pounds. I'm also not entirely sure the dosage was optimal. I started THM in Phase 4 to maintain, but instead gained several pounds. I was then diagnosed with adrenal fatigue, which also causes weight gain. I'm being treated for it now, and although I'm feeling much better, I'm still quite a way from full recovery. But I HAVE to get rid the 15 pounds I've gained since January. I'm almost at the point where I feel I will never reach my goal since there always seems to be some obstacle.

I'm honestly scared of having dosing issues again, but I really hope since I'm now mixing myself and in control of the dosing, that this round will be more successful, and I can at least get back to where I was last December.

    Please wish me luck!

What is your treatment for adrenal fatigue & do you know if being on hcg could affect it?

Good questions. I don't know how/if HCG per se affects the adrenals. I suspect that when I did my last round, my adrenals were already a bit shot. Since I just started this round, it remains to be seen how I'm affected. I know there are others here who've dealt with adrenal fatigue as well and could probably better answer this question.

I am taking adrenal cortex given to me by my doctor. I also take a number of supplements: Vitamin B Complex, Vitamin C, Zinc, Magnesium, Vitamin D3, Dr. Schuessler's cell salts, Turmeric, Ashwagandha, Holy Basil and Krill Oil. I will stop the Krill and D3 when I enter Phase 2, but continue with everything else. I have also stopped drinking coffee and any caffeinated beverages, stopped all high-intensity training and have focused on managing stress, ensuring I get enough rest and quality sleep. I've been doing this since the beginning of March and I already feel an improvement.

I think if the HCG does what it's supposed to and draws on the fat reserves for energy, it should pose less of a strain on the adrenals and other organs than conventional dieting. But it's REALLY important to ensure that we keep the fruits and melba/grissini/cracker in this regimen to avoid burning out the adrenals and thyroid. I always kept my fruits and rice cracker in my prior rounds. I will keep my fruits in P3 as well, and, P4 will be Paleo with some complex carbs like sweet potato and quinoa (along with lots of greens, lean proteins and healthy fats.)

I plan to use this as a guideline: http://www.mindbodygreen.com/0-22821...y-anxiety.html

Hello, I had great success and kept my weight loss for several years. I started at 236 in 2011 and got down to 162 last spring. I did this through 4 long rounds. Last Nov I suffered a major car accident which required cervical spinal fusion. I had surgery in April and just as I was getting better another accident in June this year. *Worse car luck ever. Both accidents not my fault. I now have a slipped disc and limited physical activity. I had to stop working also. My weight is back up to 198. It's depressing. I don't want to see anyone I know because my weight gain. i just ordered my HCG. I hope to receive it next week. I'm back for the great support system this forum offers and would love any cycle buddies.

So, it is three months since the end of my last (4th) round, and I have been steadily gaining and super frustrated. I am now up 20.5 pounds since my last injection and am just DEVASTATED!!!!! Granted, I have fallen off the wagon a few times (pizza once, ice cream another time, dark chocolate a few times, plain rice a couple of times, glasses of wine), but even when I have days where I drink only protein shakes, eat salads with fish or chicken and bio burgers or bison with steamed broccoli for dinner, I am gaining. WTF???? (Interestingly, most of my gains have been in my thighs, hips and lower abs). On occasion, I've added a small amount of beans or quinoa with dinner, (which is more for adrenal health). I don't eat a lot of fruits, except for organic blueberries, raspberries and grapefruit. Again, I have had the occasional banana, peach, plum, handful of cherries or grapes, but not with any regular frequency. I've also cut way down on nuts, but still have flax seeds/flax seed oil. In general, I avoid dairy (though I've had sheep/goat cheese on occasion), gluten and eggs.

Round 1 was the best ever! I dropped 30 pounds, and was elated. Round 2 was disastrous because of dosing issues and I gained back a few pounds, Round 3, I lost what I regained, plus a few more. Then I followed THM after Round 3, and regained about 15 pounds and was diagnosed with Adrenal Fatigue. Round 4 I lost what I regained, but never got down to my LIW in Round 3, and here I am now. If I go on like this, i will be back to where I started in January 2015. I feel like my WORST nightmare of regaining everything is being realized. I had been considering a 5th round, but I don't think my adrenals/liver can handle it now.

I feel like no matter what I eat or drink, I gain. When I weighed myself yesterday (after not having weighed for a few days), I was up 2.5 pounds. Today, despite being careful yesterday, there was another .5 gain.

I just don't know what to do anymore. I'm still in the throes of the AF. The doctor had given me hydrocortisone supplementation (5 mgs daily), which I've been taking since June 24, and have now started tapering the dosage downwards to wean off of it. Perhaps the cortisone caused some of the gains. I have also just started taking herbs to help cleanse the liver (Thislyn Cleanse) and Sunflower Lecithin to detox. Perhaps I should severely restrict fats and just focus on eating lean protein? Leez suggested I try FMD, but I am scared to death of gaining more.

I take T3/T4 for thyroid and a low-dose estrogen patch and micronized progesterone.

Any suggestions, ideas? I NEED to stop these gains. I'm guessing the AF is a big culprit, along with some liver dysfunction. Thanks so much.

The steroids (cortisone) could indeed be causing gains no matter what you try. I understand the pain that makes them seem necessary, but they are so evil to your body. Steroids weaken and dissolve cell walls. Thats why people on high doses get that papery thin skin. I truly believe that the long-term use of steroids (to treat Crohn's) is responsible for my mother's early death. If there is anyway to get off of that medication, I would start there.

Adrenal fatigue is worsened by low-carb dieting. I know you feel caught in a trap with fear of carbs, but maybe getting them back in your plan in a controlled way could be a way out for you. You don't have to add grains back, you can get good slow-burning carbs from sweet potatos and lentils.

A functional medicine doctor could help pilot you through AF recovery much better than a GP, if its financially possible to explore that option.

That's a tiny dose of hydrocortisone so I'm guessing it's for your adrenal fatigue? I've been on that before for adrenals and it didn't cause any bump in my weight. What was your last free T3 level on your thyroid? As Leez mentioned, you really need more carbs. You might try the 28 Day Fast Metabolism Diet by Pomroy. It really helps when you have your kinds of problems. I don't believe you would gain on it. I thought I would because of the carbs but I actually lost and I felt absolutely fabulous. I think you would find it really helpful.

    Good luck, honey!

    Hi Leez,

Yeah, I wondered about that, even at such a small dose (5 mgs daily). I'm tapering it and am now on 2.5 mgs every other day until Sunday. Then that's it. My doc is a functional med doctor and I'm not due to see him again until October and he's going to repeat the AF test. I've been getting treatment for six months, but I know it can take a long time to heal. I hope there's some improvement.

That I've had a boatload of work-related stress (job hunting) hasn't helped either. It's been a rollercoaster ride from h€ll and I just want to get off

I just got some sweet potatoes and I also have buckwheat. I was going to add 1/4 cup of white beans to my smoothies (per Dr. Alan Christianson) and then have some carbs (like 1/2 cup) at dinner. I was going to have some mashed sweet potato or some of the buckwheat. I haven't been exercising, except for some leisurely walking here and there. If I go to the gym for a session (weights or 40 mins of steep incline walking), I am really tired the next day. So I have to limit that, too.

    Hi Grammy,

Yes, the cortisone was for the AF. My last free T3 was measured back in Feb. when the AF was first diagnosed, and it was, 6.94 (range was 3.5-6.5), slightly out of range. I wonder if the AF caused that. I will have another look at the FMD. I need to find something that puts me back on track to better health and, hopefully, shedding my gains. UGH!!! Makes me sick after all my efforts/rounds on HCG to have this happen

Thank you both so much for all your input <3
