    Cooking for the family

I am on my first round, VLCD 12. I have two young kids and a husband and I find it very hard to cook for them and not be starving by the time I'm done preparing their meal! It's crazy to not know what they're food tastes like, whether it's good or bad. Plus, all of the cheese, milk, breads, sauces, carbs, etc. that go into the family meals is very hard to ignore

I try to keep the end goal in mind, but still, it's challenging. Does anyone else know this feeling?

I think a lot of us do!! I've got growing boys and a husband and the somewhat bland food I eat doesn't work for them. I usually try to make similar stuff so it's not two totally different meals...like grilled chicken breast, aparagus, and pasta, then I just don't eat the pasta and I don't let them eat too much of my asparagus ). It's tough, but when you see the weight come off you realize that you can do this. Dieting is hard, being fat is hard - pick your hard.

I have football teens that eat and demand big hot meals.

I premake myself about 4 days worth food in rounds. I eat at 6pm while they are taking post sports showers, then I cook for them. Makes it a lot easier if you have your little tupperwares ready to heat. Honestly, it takes about 5 minutes at the most to eat those little dishes.

I've been cooking and eating my meal while I'm making theirs...if I can eat my veggies, it keeps me from putting their food in my mouth (I'm cooking for a husband and 4 sons)

I know the feeling! I have a7yr old boy who loves food =) and never gains an ounce. What I do is just prepare his after I eat. I try to have my food ready so as others have said you eat during or before you serve them. I'm on day 6 of vlcd and honestly the cravings are still here. I'm not hungry it's all a mental thing now. Luckily my hubby and daughter are both on protocol so my little man is the odd guy out. It is making me make better choices for him now. Prepare ahead is really all this newbie can give as far as advice.

I made rack of lamb last night with fresh bread...it took just about every ounce of will I had not to dip my bread in the hot seasoned oil and lamb fat juices.

I ate while the lamb was cracking in the oven. Put the food out on the kichen island and left. "I can't watch you eat this." They understand...I'm joing them soon though!

This is my 3rd round plus I did a 3 week body cleanse before starting any of them. So, for the past 8 months I have not been eating what my family has eaten for the most part. (exception being the P3 break in between rounds) Thankfully my hubby has been on this with me for the past 2 rounds. We have 3 children and I don't want to fix them crap while we get skinny and "healthy". So, trying hard to make healthy food for them, yet at the same time stuff I'm not really interested in. Then, I try to incorporate as MUCH of their meal into mine as possible. That way when we all sit down to eat at the dinner table I don't feel SO out of it. For example. Yesterday I made them a whole wheat pasta pizza bake thing. I had a salad with a tomato/basil dressing on it to sort of give me that same "pizza" feel. (oh and then added scallops for my extra special protein pop...hehe) Having the kids watching me go thru all of this has really brought them to a new realization about food. It has truly been a year of nutritional education for our ENTIRE family. When I am on P3 we all eat the SAME thing at meal time. I drop out all carbs and serve one protein entree with 2 veggie servings.

Sorry this went on so long...I just totally understand your struggle. Keep going, and perhaps they (your family) will all learn something beneficial thru this process as well! None of you will regret it.
