Thread: Question about 100g raw vs 3.5oz cooked

Question about 100g raw vs 3.5oz cooked

I have tried to be very good about weighing all meats raw-100 g, but on Easter I cooked a roast and wanted to serve it whole to the family.

I measured out 3.5 oz (cooked) of my serving and it was significantly larger than 100 raw that I have been having. I ate it and still lost, but was wondering if I have something wrong as far as the oz. It was quite a treat I must say, but was just curious why the big difference in portion size.

    Thanks!

When you cook meat, it loses some moisture and fat. So 3.5 oz raw will weigh less when cooked. Your 3.5 oz meal of cooked roast beef is more than you were supposed to have, but you lost on it, so not a big deal.

thank you for your response. I'm doing crock pot chicken today, so what do you think a safe cooked amount in oz or g would be to eat? I don't want to push my luck.
btw....I see we are from the same place....97 Friday....hot!

When I've done this, I've measured out 75g of cooked chicken. I don't do it all the time, but so far it's been working for me. I've been measuring before and after and that's usually what the chicken that I've been cooking has worked out to. Each type of meat probably cooks down to a different cooked weight.

I used frozen chicken tenders, and 3.5 oz raw equaled about 3 oz cooked.
