    What the CLUCK?

Yesterday was P3D11 - I had homemade baked jerk chicken and a salad for lunch, and the same as leftovers for dinner. Woke up today and WAS UP 2.6 lbs. I don't know what is is about chicken that is causing these major gains in P3. It's not breaded, seasonings are minimal and don't have any starch or sugar, so I'm clueless as to what could be the problem. The only two days I've needed correction so far because my weight jumped so drastically have both been when I had homemade roasted chicken which I bought fresh, and seasoned and prepared myself in my ninja foodi cooker. I think I will forego chicken for the rest of P3 to see if this really is a problem. I've been eating beef, and even tried bacon and fresh pork (which I usually do have issues with), and have not had any issues with noticeable gains. I wonder if it's the chicken skin that is causing the problem, since I can still eat lots of skinless chicken breast as I did in P2 with no gains.

I'm think going to try lamb chops this weekend and see how I fare with them.

Something to consider is that it might not be the chicken, but what you had the day before. I think you mentioned you ate something that caused you issues previously?

Sometimes there is a delayed reaction to something. It doesn't always happen the next day. Since you also deal with slow digestion, it makes that even more likely. If the other chicken incident was preceeded by something similar, it would be even more suspicious.

    Thanks Leez,

I think the easy thing to do is eliminate my chicken in P3 to see if I have any big jumps for the remaining 10 days I have left. That would also help determine if the two day jump delay is true after eating something else.

It's also strange though that I don't have this issue when eating roasted chickens from the grocery store. I usually lose or stay the same when I eat those, never had a gain.

You have to be such a detective to accurately figure these things out.

    I hope you can.

I tried several times to do Lynn Genet's "The Plan" that uses next day diagnostics to ferret out food sensitivities. I would get bogged down each time with confusing results. In the end, just plain trial and error worked about as well.

Absolutely! And guess what. I did the inflammation smoothie yesterday, and I'm down 3.6 lbs. today - can you believe that?

So awesome the way that works.

I guess that tells you the gain was all about inflammation. But you knew that already. ^_^

P3D14 - I had a Whole Rotisserie Chicken yesterday from Publix, and dropped .6 today, back down to LDW without needing to or trying to be I was on the road most of the day driving, and the chicken was all I had time to grab during the busy day.

I think the problem might really be my own "home-cooked chicken", which is crazy since I do my own seasoning, but perhaps it's what they're injecting the fresh chickens with that I am buying and cooking. It just seems odd that the grocery store rotisserie chickens which sometimes contain sugar and brining solutions make me lose. I'm baffled, but to remain stable, I will not longer roast my own chicken at home.

I still plan to have some lamb one day this week.

That is so odd. But your suspicion that it could be whatever hormones or antibiotics the plain chicken was treated with could be at play.

The thing is, stores use those same basic chickens for their rotisserie birds. Some brands, like Purdue, have made a pledge regarding additives, but most stores don't tell you what brand of chickens they use.

The other thing is that a chicken can be advertised as hormone/antibiotic free even if the pre-hatched eggs have been treated. So you really can't even be sure the labeling is truly accurate.

I wonder if you would have the same issue with an organic chicken.

I hope you do well with the lamb, its such a great treat.

Now that you mention that. I've had baked/roasted chicken at my mother's house, but she only buys the Fresh Organic chickens from Aldi. I take my portable scale to her house when I go visit, and I never have a gain the next days after eating her chicken. It's so good I sometimes have it for dinner one day, and the leftovers for lunch the following day. NEVER HAD A BIG GAIN (either stayed the same or even lost). You are right though, it'lmost like "food forensics" to try to figure out what's causing a gain when one shouldn't have one.

Honestly, it could even be the jerk seasoning. Seasoning can be particularly vicious.

The Jerk Seasoning was mild and I even used it in P2 on my chicken breast and had a loss. The first time I gained big from the thighs it was just light salt (with my usual Grey Celtic Seasalt), Black Pepper, and Butter and baked in the oven.
