Thread: LIW adjustment

    LIW adjustment

I'm 14 days into Phase 3 and having trouble staying at my LIW of 207.0. The first day after my three days off injections I had a function to attend. I ordered a restaurant fajita, no chips of tortilla, just the meat and vegetables and maybe a tablespoon of sour cream. The next day I weighed 208.8. I've tried steak days and modified steak days (meat plus a grapefruit or apple) since then, and can't get back to 207.0. Although I've never gone above my two-pound limit, I've come close numerous times. A year or so ago, I read on here a suggestion that a person might be better off adjusting their LIW to a number slightly higher than it originally was. I was wondering what the consequences of doing that might be in this situation. Do I give up and accept a new LIW of 208.8, which it often is, or is that a mistake I'll regret later? I'm male, if that makes a difference, and plan to start another round in February. Thank you.

First, you don't do a steak day until you are OVER your two pound limit. The limit is to allow for fluctuations, and thats what you were experiencing after day 1.

If you correct too early, it can get you into an uncontrollable correction cycle. You mention you've done steak dayS and modified steak dayS (emphasis on the plural) which means that is probably what has happened. Since you are 2/3 of the way through P3, the only thing you can do now is stop correcting and see where you end up at the end of the 21 days of P3. At that point, you can assess whether to raise your LIW going forward. But I think its worth giving your body some leeway to correct itself instead of bullying it lower prematurely.

Well, that's a bummer. But thank you for replying, Leez. I'll keep my fingers crossed for stability at the end of Phase 3.

Theres a fair chance you will be fine. We'll just have to wait and see what happens over the next week.

Do your best to resist any further corrections and do not restrict calories.

Big swings are common in the early part of phase 3. Just ride them out and you should see the fluctuations tighten a bit. I have a thread in the mens forum detailing my phase 3 earlier this year. I had very big swings early and things tightened up. You can say I stabilized fairly well but I think that whole term is a misconception.

Keep in mind that your weight doesn't stabilize so much as your body gets accustomed to being at a certain weight. There is always the pull of a previous set point and if your diet goes outside of the lanes, your body will meander towards that old set point. My body likes to be at 225. It used to like being at 240-245. I am right now trying to train it to like being at 210. But those other 2 set points will always be there.
