I'm so sorry so many are struggling! Holidays can totally present unwelcome challenges! I bet clean(high protein/fat, veggies and fruit plain) would be a good way to go. Maybe try for 3 days. As long as you don't continue to gain, it should start to come down. You don't want to omit the fats or your body will go back to starvation mode and keep holding on to it. It needs to trust you will feed it, but feed it well. It's a challenging balancing act for sure! If we can do hCG as strict as it is, we can do ANYTHING! 3 days of restriction is nothing in comparison to how we will feel once we stabilize and know our boundaries so we can live in freedom. Freedom doesn't mean free for all, freedom means knowing the limits and freely living within them. Otherwise, we don't feel free, we feel trapped by the roller coaster affect. This is all a learning experience for us and what a great opportunity we have been given to actually learn what our bodies like/dislike! It's like the slate has been wiped clean and we get to start fresh!

Why we might be gaining so quickly

    Hey all -

So I thought I'd share the hours of research I've done during my time of correction days and scale cursing. It gave me some understanding on what was happening in my body and how to combat against my gain. I'm still a work in progress, though so additional knowledge and input is ALWAYS appreciated!!

Inflammation: Certain foods cause an inflammation response and can show up later than you might think. In my case it took 2 days for the response to fully kick in. I gained 2 lbs the first day, 2.5 the second. After eliminating the food it took me a full week to recover. On average I have read it's 3-5 days to drop from inflammation. Also some foods may be tolerated in smaller amounts (I do fine on butter and that's diary) and some foods may only cause a slight response. Lastly, sensitivities seem to come and go. Tricky!

Carbohydrates: Eat a lot of these (not including fiber) and we convert and store it as glycogen in our muscles. The bad thing is that glycogen binds with a large amount of water - thus the weight gain. Simmons recommends burning it off (muscles use glycogen as energy) by basically starving it off with a steak day. Forcing your body into ketosis also accomplishes this (chicken thigh day or any other high protein/fat, 0 carb combo). So does exercise.

Fat: You must eat around 5,000-6,000 calories to gain a pound of fat. I don't think any of us have been doing this (I could be mistaken though!) so these big jumps on the scale are probably not fat. The lesson here is to be cautious of small weight gains over time as that could indicate a true fat gain.

Salt: We all know what this does - it's just water gain! The bad thing is if you have a sluggish thyroid, the ability to shed fluid from salt intake is hampered.

Sleep: I don't even know how this works! I just know if I don't sleep enough the scale jumps up 1-2 lbs.

OK - there are SO many more intricate details on how are bodies are responding to the foods we eat and when we eat them that the above is just a small scratch in the surface. BUT it makes me feel better to know that I would have had to eat 25,000 calories in a day to gain 5 lbs overnight. Hope this makes you feel better, too!!

And now, back to my regularly scheduled correction day.

Now I have an expensive one ($100) that is electric and I just pour the milk into it. After you make coffee you froth the milk however you decide with what devise your using and then pour into coffee and stir. It's pure heaven. I add Truvia (which I know is a no, no but don't like Stevia in coffee). I also add another no, no which is sugar free creamer in various flavors. I have never had a problem with any of these things but everyone is different.

The heavy whipping cream I do not use in my coffee but many do just as a creamer. I use an electric hand held mixer (like you would use to mix a cake with) and beat it up with Stevia (don't mind it in HWC). I beat it until it becomes whipping cream (instead of buying Cool Whip etc. which has a load of junk in it). It's just the old fashioned way of making whipped cream and so much better for you and tastes way better than the processed stuff. I then put huge scoops of it over fresh berries and it becomes a yummy dessert.

I hope these things help you! I can understand your fear of adding things that you have not used in years. P3 is designed that you can have the fats but NOT the starches and sugar. If you combine these you will gain. It is amazing how much FAT I can consume without gaining! Yesterday I had yummy Chicken with the skin on!!!! I ate a thigh and a wing and a leg with side of butternut squash and lots of butter!!!! I only wish my sweet tooth would go away and I would be fine. I don't miss bread or pasta at all.

Hi "Thislady"...I understood butternut squash and pumpkin were not to be used in Phase 3. Perhaps these items are what are presenting gains.

I prob shouldn't even weigh myself when i'm sick... I didnt sleep hardly anything last night - Sore throat, sinus pain, body aches... ugh. Surprisingly I still ate really well. I loaded up on fats and protein and made myself a Jay Robb whey smoothie with berries and avocado. It really filled me up and made me feel good. I was sipping it all afternoon! Anyway, down from yesterday by .6 and still below LIW. At least THAT makes me feel better

Also I think I might change my ticker by the end of the week - it seems like I jump up, then back down to 119.6... Maybe this will be the weight I stabilize at...?

SARAH: Taking it slow is the key, girl! Good job! I'm still struggling to eat, too. Many days I'm not even hungry and can easily skip a meal, but I don't, and I force myself to eat

CASSIE: Oh no! let us know what happens after your chicken day

FYRE: yes! I will make them this weekend!

MELANIE: With steak days I know you can eat an apple or tomato with it. If you're hungry can you eat an apple now? Then lots of green tea. And a big giant steak for an early dinner?

Hi - Haven't been on here in a while and wow is there a lot to catch up on. I'm bouncing around a lot too..and I had my Easter failures also. I'm doing a steak correction day today, was starving, but hoping this brings me back down to 1 pound over LIW. I have to say I'm actually counting the days to be back on cycle for finish up this weight loss! It was easier when you KNEW what you could and couldn't eat, than it is trying to figure out what is going to work ugh!!

I see you used ACV - what about ranch or another sugar free dressing? Something with a little more fat in it. 3. Are you eating enough calories? Do you eat until you are satisfied? I mean 3 strawberries don't seem like much unless they were equivalent to like 10 regular sized berries (I know I've seen some monster berries lately). Berries and grapefruit are pretty low in sugar so they would be a safer bet for fruit then an apple.
Dear McB, Thanks for responding. Actually I meant Full Fat when I wrote FF, not Fat Free. I don't do fat free for all the reasons you mentioned. ANd you're right. I know I don;t have enough fat in my diet, because I have to keep it low at the beginning and ease my way into it due to wonky gall bladder. I'm doing chicken thighs today. Good god! That's a lot to eat!! There goes my love of chicken thighs.)

I see my acupuncturist tomorrow and speak with the naturopath who's been getting the HCG for me so will definitely discuss possible causes with them.

Thanks for support. Hang in everybody!

So if you have cottage cheese or fage one day, don't assume you will see it on the scale the next day. I feel this is why people have such a hard time with p3 . Try one item, wait 3 days or so and if nothing keep adding. Also, remember to read the labels. Mayo has starch in most cases, and pork isn't really good for the human to consume even if it is grassfed, its just the nature of the animal. Personally I don't eat pork, but if I were you, I'd hold off on it until ur stabalized.

I'm sorry ur struggling! I really hope you can figure things out. Stay strong!

Thanks KatNip, love your name BTW, and my cat just walked across the computer as I was writing that.)
I have done just what you said, tried a new food and waited 3 days etc. The mayo I eat is from a local collective and is free of starches and sugars. It's just like homemade, except I didn't make it. I stared gaining slowly right from the beginning of P3. I'm thinking I may not be eating enough calories or fats. I feel OK about the pork chop. From local butcher who knows his own pigs. In general I'm not a big pork eater, but my body said YES to it. I don't think it did anything that wasn't already happening to my weight. But thanks for trying to help solve the puzzle! I appreciate your suggestions.

    Lola,
Thanks for the suggestion of adding avocado to Jay Robb shake. I've been trying to find a way to make it more fat-ful but the only thing I've thought of is chia seeds or coconut oil, which hardens into little gross oil balls. BUt I can certainly throw in 1/2 avocado for a good fat. Thanks! Glad you're staying below LDW. Wow! ANd sooo close to goal!

    Hi Fyregirl,
My previous image of you was of someone high diving into cashews. Now the image has changed to a mad scientist-type with her head deep into research while simultaneously cursing her scale and defrosting chicken thighs.)

Thanks for this post. I find it really helpful. I didn't know about thyroid and salt. I use salt pretty heavily (blame my mother, OK?) and have thyroid issues. Hmmmmm.

As for inflammation, it's my middle name. I've struggled with it since my teens. Several years ago I was tested for food allergies and came up with 37 allergies, more than the company had seen before. That's why I add foods so slowly in P3. The only dairy I really insist on having is HWC in my tea. It didn't seem to cause problems the last rounds, but I'll keep watching . . .
The more I read, the more I think I haven't done enough fats this round, so god help my gall bladder, here we go!

Thanks again for the post! Good luck!

This made me laught out loud!

    Good Morning,

So far so good on the eggs. I was the same weight as yesterday. I guess tomorrow will be the true test for eggs though, since it can sometimes take two days.
I had three hard boiled eggs total through out the day. One in the morning. Then early in the evening I made two delived eggs with a little Duke's Mayo, which also has eggs in it. It was a yummy snack and certainly helped me get closer to my protein goal. Do you think that was enough amount of eggs to test with? I'm probably going to have about the same amount today too.

Well, I am down 1.6 from chicken thigh day. I was up half the night feeling on the verge of vomiting. I am done with chicken. Forever. I feel like just sitting here drinking my coffee with cream is putting the weight back on! I wasnt to follow up mh correction day with just fat and protein like suggested to lock in my sucess, but I am not sure I can stomach any more greasy meat! I felt so gross!!

On a brighter note, I took my daughter to wallyworld to buy her a gift for a party and decided to try on some new brightly colored spring clothes. I cannot believe that I can easily wear 10 sizes smaller shorts and went from a large shirt to small. And nothings even tight!! I have come so far. I have to keep this in mind when the roller coaster of p3 gets me down. And yes, i bought the clothes. Wearing them today. Its gonna finally be spring-like, so i will take my granddaughter to the lake trail for the 4 mile walk!

    Have a great Friday!
